Son is wanting to travel to London (from Newcastle) for his 17th birthday. He wants to visit the London eye, go sightseeing etc.

Im a bit worried about travelling to London with all the rail disruptions- last time I travelled, all trains home were cancelled and we had to stay overnight.

Is there anywhere else that’s a nice place to visit just so I can throw some ideas at him?

We've just been to London and luckily no disruptions. I also have a 17 year old and he loved Manchester. Shopping and food 😊👍

My DD is a year younger. She loved Manchester too.

Are you going too or is he going on his own? He might find it hard to get accommodation if he’s going alone as most places don’t allow unaccompanied under 18s. Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh but to be honest, if one lot of trains are disrupted they all tend to be and LNER Newcastle - London usually fare better than most, even on strike days they’ve run a very limited service whereas other operators have been completely cancelled.

Rail strikes must be announced at least two weeks in advance. There can be travel disruptions for other reasons, of course.

If he wants London, then do London.

My teen's favourite city is Liverpool
