Which area/where to stay in Glasgow?

First time to Glasgow. Looking to stay in either air bnb or reasonable hotel with teens for a few nights. No idea what areas are best! Suggestions please - we might hire a car, so I guess parking could be an issue.

TIA

wrap up warm!! i’m a soft southerner and my one memory from visiting Glasgow is the bitter bitter cold!!

It depends what you’re interested in?

West end somewhere. Off Byres road or near the botanic gardens. Loads to see there and you can take the underground into city centre.

I would stay central or west end. East End is a bit rougher.

Glasgow has a small underground system which covers the central and out to the west area.

What are you thinking of doing when you visit?

I would stay centrally if it's your first time. Unless you are planning to leave the city, I wouldn't bother with a hirecar. Public transport / Uber is available and good.

West End - Hillhead / Hyndland / Botanics / around the University are lovely areas (basically either side of Byres Rd). Or Finneston.

There will be plenty of air bnbs in those areas, or we have stayed at the Hilton at the top of Byres Rd a few times; you can get some good deals there if you time it right.

Agree that if you're staying on the city you don't need a car really. Glasgow is very walkable and there's always the Clockwork Orange 😁

Thanks all - I haven't really thought through what we're doing. I'd like to take some day trips outside of Glasgow to the lovely surroundings. Then we're going to head to Newcastle to see friends. But haven't thought about what we do in Glasgow!

Won't be going till Spring/May

Tons to do but stay in West End, Hyndland, Byres Rd, Great Western road. Public transport fab, parking bad! You can walk into city centre. If you're going to hire a car drive it upto Loch Lomond one day, it's great. You can take the train though it's not that far.

West End, withing striking distance of Byres Road which will no doubt appeal to your teens. Hop on the underground into town - loads to do in both the west end and city centre.

You could get a train from Partick out to Balloch and Loch Lomond. You could always book a day tour with a company like Rabbies who will take you out of the city.
