Recommendations for a weekend in York? (dining & things to do)

It's my 40th during the long weekend at Easter and DH is taking me to York for two nights. Just interested to hear of any recommendations for restaurants, cafes and just general things to check out while there. I've been a couple of times before and visited Betty's for afternoon tea and have been to the shambles, but apart from that I don't know it very well.
Would love to have an idea of where we can visit before we go.

There was a very recent thread in this section asking just this! OP had lots of replies and recommendations, might be worth looking it up (sorry no idea how to link!) I love York, my DD goes to Uni there. Would definitely recommend a trip round the Minster and breakfast at Bettys Tearooms.

Sorry just realised you've done Bettys! Worth a second visit though 😆

Parlormade scones is amazing, would recommend over Betty's!

Ooh thanks @Fezbomb - I was thinking of going to Betty's again but it would be good to try somewhere new!

Sora sky bar is well worth a visit it's lovely food but also nice just for a drink or a daytime coffee. Worth it for the views alone. You are probably best booking a table as it does get busy

Just be prepared to have to queue for cafes at lunchtime and everywhere to be very busy. It’s chaos at weekends, bank hols and any kind of nice weather. Most locals stay away from the centre because of this. You’ll have a great time, it’s a lovely city but very popular.

We absolutely loved The Van Gogh immersive experience

DD has done that and said it was brilliant!

We sat through 2 cycles of it, it was absolutely mesmerising.

We had a brilliant couple of days in York with the kids last summer.

We loved walking the whole length of the city walls, and the national railway museum was fantastic even for non-train fanatics.

We of course did Betty's but our favourite dinner was in a Thai place which did small plates called Tah Tien.

Rustique restaurant is lovely! French food, great value set menu, which has a lot of choice. Book ahead though.

Ambiente tapas is also really nice!

If you want to do something fun I would recommend the York Dungeons. Absolutely brilliant - so scary I had to take my 11DD out the side door before it ended! My husband kept getting chosen to be the 'victim' it was at once hilarious and terrifying! I'm secretly glad I was able to leave 😂

The Yordvick Museum too of course.

A wall walk.

The Minster.

Super shopping.

Lovely eateries.

So much to do. A lovely place to spend your 40th. Have fun!

My favourite thing in York is the English Heritage cold war bunker site. You have to book but it's amazing.

Afternoon tea at Betty's was underwhelming.

It's a small chain, but there's an especially nice 'Cote Brasserie', french bistro style restaurant.
Small museum near the is castle worth an hour's meandering.

If you like Greek food there's an amazing restaurant called Vine Stories. We were there Friday night and it was beautiful.
