Hotel in Gillingham, Kent?

I'm attending a funeral and need to stay overnight. Will be arriving by train so won't have a car. Is there somewhere I can stay that's near the station? I see there's a Premier Inn but it's on a business park. Is there a better option? Thanks.

There another premier inn just literally along the road in Rainham. The one in the business park has a restaurant attached and is right in the main A2 although backs into the business park. Where is the funeral?

You could get off the train at Rainham and stay at the Rainham premier inn - that’s nearer to the station than the Premier inn on the business park and Gillingham train station.

Depends whereabouts in Gillingham the funeral is really

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 11/01/2024 21:39

OK thank you. It's at the crematorium. But i can probably get a lift from the hotel. I get tired easily so I want to find a hotel near the station as I'll be going to the hotel first.

@Pocketfullofdogtreats the crematorium is in Chatham. Do you want to check exactly where you are going before booking? I’m a local so happy to help advise if you want to pm me

Crematorium is Bluebell Hill. Closest hotel is probably the Holiday Inn Chatham/Rochester.

FlamingoFloss · 12/01/2024 00:13

Yes that one or the Bridewood Manor is a bit closer

FlamingoFloss · 12/01/2024 00:13

Sorry! bridgewood Manor!
sorry for your loss

FlamingoFloss · 12/01/2024 00:16

Or The Village Maidstone is at the bottom
of Bluebell Hill

Thank you very much. I'll be in touch when I know more. You know what it's like - see a Premier Inn that's supposed to be close and you get there and find it's a three-mile walk along a dual carriageway and there aren't taxis! My concern is getting from a station to the hotel. I'll go the day before, and then I'm sure I can find a relative who's coming up from south London to pick me up on the way the next day.

If you need any other info just shout

Personally, for Bluebell Hill crematorium, I'd stay at the Bridgewood hotel or Maidstone (which would be my first choice).... You will be in for a shock if you decide to get off the train in Gillingham, the high street is shocking! And I say that as someone who has lived there!! 🤣

Chatham is easier to get to Bluebell Hill from and Rochester isn't much further.

When is the funeral?

IIdentifyAsInnocent · 12/01/2024 23:29

Also, I am sorry for your loss.

Closest hotel is probably the Holiday Inn Chatham/Rochester.

Get off the train at Chatham and the 101 bus will take you directly to the hotel. Turn right outside the station for the bus stop. It runs every 15 minutes or so. Or get a taxi from the station. It isn't far.

Or if you prefer, there's a Travelodge next door to Rochester station, just off Rochester High Street. More choice of places to eat there, if you're going to be there overnight. The Holiday Inn is a bit out on its own.

I see OP is hoping for a lift from relatives driving down from London. If they're coming via A20, Maidstone might be the best place to stay. If they're coming on A2, then Rochester/Chatham. The Village hotel Maidstone would require a taxi from Maidstone East station.

Actually, I forgot about the Holiday Inn. I'd definitely do this.

Bridgewood Manor or The Village in Maidstone are easiest as they’re both just off the main rod to the crematorium, I’d guess within about £15 on an Uber too.

The Travelodge by Rochester station will be more of a faff to get there. Holiday Inn is a good option too.

Thank you all. Am still waiting for details of the funeral. Thanks for your kind words - it's my lovely aunt who has died.
