Thanks for suggestions. @Bellie99 it looks amazing but way over budget for us. We were thinking around £600, not £1400 for the weekend. In our dreams...

Pre covid, but my ex husband and I stayed at Thornbury Castle and the meal was simply incredible. Amazing historic place to stay also.

L’enclume in cartmel, the Lake District or the Gilpin, also in the Lake District. Both have excellent food and l’enclume featured on the trip on TV (rob bryden and Steve coogan).

there is also burgh island down south which is great fun though I can’t remember what the food was like!

Seconded. We did stay and breakfast the next morning (and afternoon tea if you've still got space!) is also lovely.

The Gurnard's Head, Zennor.

The Loch & Tyne, Old Windsor.

Both are restaurants with a few rooms but I've eaten and stayed at both and they were both amazing.
