Concert at the O2

Could anyone please give me some advice on travel/staying in London for a concert at the O2?

I'm wondering whether it would be OK to stay in central London after the gig so we could spend the next day doing the Covent Garden, Leicester Square area, and if we did this would we need to drop luggage first or is their left luggage at the arena?

I was at the O2 on Tues night and they made an announcement about bags as we were going in, saying you could only take in one handbag-sized bag and all others would have to be checked for a cost of £10 per bag. So yes they do have a left luggage, but it isn't cheap.

As to your other question - of course you can stay in central London and have a day's shopping after going to the O2! I think I'd check in first though and then go to your show. Most hotels let you leave luggage for free in their luggage room if your room isn't ready.

There is a bag storage outside the venue but it costs. Personally I would try and drop bags at your hotel first.

Try and find a hotel on the Jubilee Line e.g. Waterloo, Westminster. This way you can get the Jubilee line to and from the O2. Then the next day you can walk, get a bus or tube to Leicester Square & Covent Garden. Waterloo is 2 stops to Leicester Square. Be aware that Waterloo/Westminster are expensive areas.

London Bridge is another alternative, on the Jubilee Line with other lines to get to Leicester Square/Covent Garden.

One option if you have plenty of time is to take the Thames Clipper from Westminster/Embankment to the O2 - you can get a drink onboard and it’s a lovely way to see London.

Don't take luggage to the O2, as said it will cost and it can take ages to queue, both to drop and pick up as they are very hot on sizes of bags you can take in.

That's brilliant information, thanks everyone. I think one of the premier inns near the London Eye might be good. I've googled and seen you can take the Thames Clipper back after the concert which I thought might be better than queuing for the tube?

yes, its good, as long as its running the night of your show - it doesn't run for everything. Check here -

Going to a show at The O2? Get there and back by boat. Safe and comfortable. Best way to travel in London.

Yes, the tube is very busy after concerts, so if you can take the boat I'm sure that would be less crowded, although I don't know how frequent they are.

We had the situation on Tues where the last train going into central London from North Greenwich was at 00.19 and the concert was still in full swing at 23.30 so goodness knows if everyone managed to get the tube home. I do wish artists would go on stage on time!! They never bloody do though, so they finish late and half the crowd has to leave before it's finished so they can get home.

I've checked and it's showing a price for the date but it's not clickable. It's not until next July so I won't worry about it yet!

Read the blurb carefully. If you're on the wrong side you won't make it in time for boat. It actually tells you what block numbers to avoid booking for.

That scuppers that plan!

It's The Killers. Wembley would have been better really, we are travelling from the Midlands. I was hoping for dates at Birmingham or Cardiff.

I wouldn’t count on using the Thames Clippers , IME they are totally unreliable .

Rainallnight · 07/12/2023 16:11

I got on the Tube last night after Madonna at the O2. Long queue to get on but it moved very quickly and there was no problem getting on a train. It’ll be fine. Enjoy the gig!

When we go to O2 concerts we now stay at London Bridge Hotel which is next to the tube station and also a stone's throw from Borough Market. It is a few stops away from the o2 and as someone said, the tubes do run efficiently. Cheaper than staying in a hotel near the o2 and much more central and you can have Ana amazing breakfast in Borough Market
