Not everyone likes dogs, I don't, I want to go away in UK but not be surrounded by dogs in this nation of dog lovers, I don't mind them outside, on a lead, but every restaurant, cafe, seems to allow them in and all owners aren't responsible, I don't want them near me. Any UK suggestions?

Definitely NOT Cornwall. 😀

A city break would probably be better. Edinburgh or Bath?

GrandHighPoohbah · 03/12/2023 07:29

You could try a city break and stay in a hotel that doesn't allow dogs. Pick activities in places that don't allow them eg museums, and eat in higher end restaurants. You will still encounter some dogs, but at least not for very long or near you.

I never see dogs in restaurants where I live - in coffee shops yes. I live in a small, ancient city and there are lots of dogs here, but they're generally outside (thank god! Also not a dog fan).

Not Bath, I was there in July and there were dogs absolutely everywhere (speaking as a dog owner who lives in a country where you can't take your dog anywhere inside)

You'll just have to choose your choose your restaurants/cafes carefully. Check online or phone ahead. The UK is dog friendly so you’ll see some wherever you go.

Edinburgh is completely dog friendly. They can go everywhere. They even have a new dog friendly premium shopping centres where most of the shops and the restaurants are dog friendly. You can even hire dog prams to go around it.

So I wouldn't go there if you hate dogs

Following with interest.

In the past I would've said city breaks but they're everywhere now, in all the shops. I don't think there's anywhere you can go to get away from them sadly.

GrandHighPoohbah · 03/12/2023 08:11

Maybe go for somewhere that's not busy in general, since dogs seem to be everywhere these days? Perhaps parts of the Welsh or Yorkshire coast. Yes people will bring their dogs but there is lots of space to avoid being at close quarters.

Thanks everyone, it drives me mad when dogs are allowed on benches and chairs, so sitting at the table, sniffing and licking the table, so unhygienic, it's a dog, not human. I've decided if a place is dog friendly, I'm not going.
