Recommendations for self-catering 3 bed detached cottage anywhere in England or Wales

Ideally within 3 hours drive of Herts. Not fussed about location. Seaside would be a bonus, but not essential.

Not the Lake District (dh has irrational prejudice against it despite never having been).

bosinver maybe worth a look? St Austell so probably more than 3 hrs.

You'd be lucky to get to the Lake District in 3 hours, anyway!

Have just spotted "toddler friendly" in your criteria.

There's a couple of steps in the garden of the polperro one but DS was three when we went there and i don't remember any problems. You can choose whether or not to light the fire. I think we put the fire guard in front of the aga, just to be sure.

One of my favourite holiday haunts
www.wagtails-wells.norfolk.co.uk. It is a link attached bungalow (link is with the garage so in effect it is detached for noise etc.). Lovely children's room with bunk beds (bring your own rail) and toys and a great wendy house in the garden with toys, tricyles etc. Very comfortably equipped and a short level level from everything that Wells has to offer (quayside town, beach, indoor soft play centre, great shops, cafes, pubs and all of North Norfolk within an easy drive.

We can be flexible on the 3 hour thing, just trying to think how long we can bear to be stuck in a car with 2 screaming dcs.

Inflexible on the detached thing - don't want to disturb other people with a newborn's crying at night (or be disturbed by other people).

Hmm. Love the Polperro one, but it is booked for the dates we can go.

None of the others take my fancy, but I am a bit fussy. Some of the Lyme Bay ones were lovely but had cream carpets and we would wreck them most looked a bit chintzy to me or have an unsuitable bedroom arrangement.

Bumping for some more ideas.

We stayed here a few yrs ago,the 1 acre garden and the thatched roof swung it for me!-kids loved the table tennis in the barn also.Its a lovely lovely place.

Mentioned this on thread about "near to beach" - have stayed here www.arranz.co.uk - has double, twin and bunk rooms. Is in Mullion, Cornwall. Also has enclosed garden.

poshwellies - that looks just what we need. Will run it by dh later.

flatmouse - also nice, but we stayed very nearby a couple of years ago (although without dcs so a very different sort of holiday). Good possible as a back up plan though.
