You can get the tram from Piccadilly station to the Old Trafford metrolink stop. Follow the signs in the station down the escalator to the tram stop under the station.

You can either buy a ticket at the machine on the tram platform or tap in/out with a card on the machines on the platform.

It is very easy. Change onto the Metrolink at Piccadilly and get on the Altrincham tram line. They are every 12 minutes. You can use contactless to tap in and tap out at the stops or buy a ticket from the machine. For the latter you need a ticket for Zones 1 and 2. You can’t pay in advance for a day ticket, only weekly or monthly tickets.

Cross the tram tracks when you get off and head straight up Brian Statham Way / Warwick Road past the cricket ground and town hall. You will then see the stadium ahead of you.

Presumably football rather than cricket?

The tram is about a 20-30 minute walk from the football ground so you might want to take the bus instead.

Tbh I'd just get a cab which would take 10 minutes as opposed to 40 minutes via public transport.

20-30 minutes walk? It’s 10 minutes tops!

Actually there is a shorter walk to the stadium from the Wharfside stop (about 5 mins) but that involves a change at Cornbrook onto the Trafford Centre line which is a bit more complicated.

Crikey! I've walked from the stop at Media City - it's ten minutes tops!

No, it's at least a 20 minute walk!

You lot must be jogging!

Turn right out of the station, carry on down the road. Keep going down and you'll soon find the theatre of screams.

Hth

It’s 12mins walk according to google and I always find it takes me less than that estimates ;)

Are you thinking from Trafford Bar? That’s a bit further, but you can get off at the Old Trafford stop instead.

If you are getting a train to Manchester and your ticket says “Manchester central zone” then your metro ticket is included so no need to get one. If not you can probably get a ticket via an app on your phone to save faffing on the day.

It's really not

Not to be pedantic (save face! 😂) but you do have to walk to the far side of the ground to get to the tour entrance ...!

I'd still get a cab ....

ShitaBrick · 21/09/2023 07:58

Manchester Stations tickets only let you travel in Zone 1. Old Trafford is in Zone 2.

Only weekly or monthly tickets are available on the app.
