Thames Barrier tour - anyone done one?

I was looking at booking a tour of the Thames Barrier but it seems a bit complicated - either just a small looking museum a long way from the nearest tube stop, or £££ speed boat tours to see the barrier itself. I was looking for more of mid range option with a bit of information about the engineering and climate change impact, and a brief boat trip to see the barrier itself up close - has anyone done something like that?

We did. The tour was a long lecture- interesting but not for under 10s. We picked a time when the barrier was moving (which is v slow). You get a lot of geeky facts and a little museum so my family (all engineering/ science oriented) found it interesting but it might not be for everyone.

You can see the barrier very well from the river bank so no need for a boat tour.

Ooh, specifically which tour, was it run by the museum? There seem to be tons. And in terms of interest, we are all over 10 and quite into this type of thing, so that sounds perfect. But a boat trip would make it more fun, I think, so I was seeing if I could combine them. Thanks!
