DH and I are looking for a lodge with gorgeous views to relax in but with somewhere we can go sightseeing fairly nearby. A hot tub or spa onsite would be a bonus. We are in s Wales and would only want to travel 4 hours. Looking for this a midweek break this October. Anyone been to anywhere like this they can recommend please?

What's your budget? Makes a huge difference z!

emilyofnewmoon · 22/08/2023 22:28

Sorry forgot that bit. Around £600 to £1000 for a really nice place .

What sort of sightseeing do you want to do? Museums / castles / nature ?

Silkiebunny · 23/08/2023 00:29

Dartmoor Llama walks have a cottage with hot tub, and by where they do llama walks across Dartmoor. The cottage has good views, is clean but a bit old fashioned. Limited availability for October though.

Landmark Trust may be worth a look but have no WiFi generally.

All of the above plus art galleries and historical houses.

Loving the Landmark Trust idea, thank you as I had not heard of this.

We have just spent a week here www.vindomoracountrylodges.co.uk

It's a very small park - just 8 wooden lodges all with private hot tubs in Northumberland. Absolutely beautiful, spotlessly clean, the site manager literally can't do enough for you. Beautiful countryside views, very close to the river Derwent for quiet and peaceful walks.

Also good for visiting places like Alnwick castle (hogwarts) and gardens, holy island, bamburgh, Durham for the cathedral, not too far from the Lake District for a lovely day out too.

(Can you tell we absolutely loved it 😂)

That does look a lovely site but a bit far away for this time. Definitely one to remember for retirement though so thank you.

Maybe a bit close to home, but stayed here.. beautiful ! Wood fired hot tub and within easy reach of castles, Anglesey, Portmerion etc £679 ! https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/50123593?adults=2&enable_m3_private_room=true&source_impression_id=p3_1692816381_O7Biq1XbzSGHd%2FjS&previous_page_section_name=1000&federated_search_id=845c6f82-800c-4cc9-8a53-14c05a5f8d55&guests=1&check_in=2023-10-09&check_out=2023-10-13

Have a look at "Keldy Cabins" which is just North of York - ideal base for exploring the city of York, the North Yorkshire Moors, seaside towns (Whitby, Scarborough) etc.

Ive stayed at the Tregonhawke one, its nice but there are lodges/huts v close to it and the path down the cliff to the beach is soooo steep

emilyofnewmoon · 24/08/2023 20:54

Love this but sadly over budget, thanks though.

It might be worth checking with the Cornwall one whether they would do a short break, especially if it’s not October half term. I think if they would do 4 nights it could be under the 1k budget

emilyofnewmoon · 26/08/2023 22:45

Some lovely ideas, thanks all

Forest holidays have a site now at delamere forest which puts you within striking distance of Chester and a number of national trust properties in Cheshire.
