Country House Hotel Cheshire / Peak District / Yorkshire area

Looking for a very nice country hotel somewhere around Cheshire / Peak District / Yorkshire for a Sunday night. Lovely food is the priority, maybe a place that does a great Sunday roast or afternoon tea as well as having a nice restaurant for dinner. Room doesn't have to be huge but ideally not too dated. Front runner at the moment is Rookery Hall in Nantwich but would love other suggestions. We live overseas and are visiting the UK for an extended time and this is our one splurge night and I'm hankering after a really nice British country house hotel experience because it's so far removed from what we can get where we live! We're travelling from south east up to North Yorks so pretty flexible on location.

The Devonshire Arms Hotel in Bolton Abbey has excellent food but might not be country house enough

Grantley Hall is exquisite but expensive. Top notch food and excellent service.

Losehill House in Derbyshire is gorgeous, beautiful gardens and location, great food.

Grantley Hall looks beautiful but sadly a little over budget!

Bookmarking Devonshire Arms, that's very close to where we'll be staying for a few weeks and like the look of the food there. Lovely, thank you.

Yes Grantley Hall is a bit eye watering. DH’s work paid for us to stay there and I’ve been wanting to go back since but unable to justify.

If you’re near Bolton Abbey, it’s a gorgeous part of the country!

The same people who run the Devonshire Arms also run The Devonshire Fell in Burnsall which I would also highly recommend.

The Angel at Hetton is also close by and brilliant. Completely amazing Sunday Lunch menu (although was declared not enough food for the money by my Yorkshireman father)

The Peacock at Rowsley or Biggin Hall, both in Derbyshire.

I second the Devonshire Arms. Swinton Park too

Carden Park is lovely

oh happy memories of my grandpa taking us to the peacock at rowsley when we were kids and we thought it was the poshest place ever @Fivemoreminutes1 ! 😍 their portions must have been good because he was a yorkshireman who didn't do "fancy food that's painted on a plate"!

The Devonshire Arms has a sister hotel, the Devonshire Fell. More
country house feel same amazing food and a pub within walking distance.

Grantley is amazing including the michelin starred restaurant. I've never been anywhere so perfect. I was tickled by the music in the car park and a spotlight in the ground marking each parking bay…oh and a handle on the toilet seat!
