Hello,

My parents have suddenly (and for the first time) offered to have the children this weekend. My DH and I have not been away together in 10 years. Any suggestion for a weekend away this weekend - somewhere in the SE of England - Kent, Sussex, Surrey , London. We don't have a massive budget and ideally would do some nice doing ahead of staying somewhere lovely. Thank you so much for reading and any suggestions. I am so excited I am almost giddy!

Rye is beautiful - it might well be booked up but I've stayed at The George in Rye and The Gallivant and both are excellent.

They might be a bit spendy so if you are on a tighter budget, another brilliant weekend away I had with friends was at the travelodge in Worthing (I kid you not).

The travelodge is perfectly adequate and the rooms on the front have fantastic sea views.

A few blocks away, in front of the premier inn, there's a sauna in a converted horse box on the beach that you can book for £60 per hour between up to 6 people - can run in and out of the sauna and the sea as much as you like on that time

The Crab Shack does amazing seafood

The Whiskey Rooms is a great cocktail bar just a couple of mins from the back of the travelodge thewhiskeyrooms.co.uk

Take your own crossaints and cafetière to save on breakfast in your room.

See if there's a four poster available at The Griffin in Fletching. Sheffield Park is close by if you're National Trust members.
