Family friendly hotel near England/wales border

Looking for any recommendations for a nice family friendly hotel somewhere close to the England/wales border (could be anywhere been Bristol and Liverpool really) for a couple of nights over the summer. Looking for somewhere we can chill out, just stay in the hotel and have meals there, use the pool, where the kids can do a few activities, and somewhere that feels a little bit special. Currently looking at Celtic Manor, but is there anywhere else that ticks all these boxes which I haven't thought of?

Not sure if it’s close enough to the border but Carden Park in Cheshire has great activities for kids, beautiful spa, indoor and outdoor pools, choice of lovely restaurants. We’ve been with a family group ranging from 80s to toddlers and all enjoyed immensely

I was going to suggest Celtic Manor, my children love it there

@bellsbuss as we're quite last minute in booking, if we did Celtic manor it looks like most of the activities for children are booked out. Are there activities we can do at the hotel without booking? Also, it looks like you need to book the pool in advance? I'm hoping it wouldn't be too difficult to get a couple of slots for the pool?
