Eating in London (Italian or Indian maybe)

TomAllenWife · 31/07/2023 21:53

Taking teen DS this weekend, he likes a good Italian, somewhere with a big bowl of arrabiatta or similar

I've done Bancone a couple of times but worried it might be too OTT

But he's pretty varied, will eat most things

We're staying in elephant and castle but doing central London and borough

So any recommendations gratefully recieved

(Or a really good curry)

Go to Borough Market and see what takes your fancy - millions of lovely places there

TomAllenWife · 01/08/2023 11:24

@custardlover we are going to Borough on Sunday, looking for something a little more 'sit down' than wandering around eating out of a carton

Borough Market and the surrounding streets is stuffed with restaurants

Or go to Brick Lane for an excellent curry

I took my teens to dishoom and they loved it when we visited.

Does he like Chinese food? Head to China town perhaps. Not keen on the Indian restaurants in central London, far better in brick lane

AnxiouslyWait · 01/08/2023 11:30

Padella

VictoriaVenkman · 01/08/2023 11:32

Strada South Bank is nice. Food is good and you basically look out over the Thames Southbank - London - Strada

Spaghetti house

Padella is a sit down pasta restaurant in Borough, you have to queue but can do this with a QR code online. Dishoom for Indian

Whataretheodds · 01/08/2023 11:48

Honestly worth searching Google maps around where you're staying using the Italian and Indian filter to see what takes your fancy.

Mercato Metropolitano is just north of Elephant & Castle and has lots of seating as well as various food stalls so you could have the best of both worlds.

Brick Lane is terrible for Indian food. The 'glory days' ended years ago. If you want decide Indian in E1 you go to Tayyabs (cheap & loud) or Gunpowder (more pricey & sedate).

God no!!! Unless you hate the person you're with and you're trying to punish them. 😂

SmartHome · 01/08/2023 17:45

I love Hakassan for dimsum/Chinese and my kids love it too. Maybe a bit pricey.

TomAllenWife · 06/08/2023 09:25

Thank you for all the suggestions, we went for Padella and it was delicious and suprisingly reasonable
