Near Tenby wet weather ideas

Hello wise mumsnet

We have a week booked near Tenby soon. Weather doesn't look to be changing. We've been before and spent over half the week on the beach. It looks to be too chilly/rainy for that.

Can anyone recommend activities please?

Kids are nearly 11 and nearly 9.

Happy to drive up to 45mins, an hour for something really good.

They like 'doing stuff'!

Thank you for all and any ideas!

Folly Farm is a great day out with lots to do indoors.

icanflytoday · 31/07/2023 21:35

@PurpleOranges thanks - is there enough for my two's age range? I did see it last time but didn't go because of the lovely weather and because I wasn't sure if it was for younger kids.

We will go to Heatherton again.

Does anyone know what other things to visit or do are near(ish) please?

Hanger 5 trampoline park in Haverfordwest
Picton Castle - it has escape room games

Wild lakes is great. You will get wet anyway, and they do amazing food in their tent. They also have a bouldering area so some escape from any rain.

I second the escape rooms in Picton Castle - the best rooms we have ever done!

Book a surf lesson - you’ll be wet anyway!

Off the top of my head:

  • Hangar 5 trampoline park in Haverfordwest - my 8 year old loves if there. Definitely good for older kids.
  • Llys y Fran - all outdoor but good if weather not too horrendous
  • Scolton Manor - again all outdoor but good as lots of play equipment for older kids
  • Folly Farm - as PP mentioned. Still lots to do for your two’s ages, but be warned all of the rides are extra on top of ticket price (both indoor and outdoor)
  • Wild Lakes - not sure what minimum age is for activities there but if your two like water sports worth looking into
  • Pembrokeshire Leisure - website for the leisure centres. Worth checking out what summer activities they have on whilst you’re visiting. You’ll probably need to create accounts but can just pay for the activities rather than needing a membership or anything.

There’s also a bowling alley and cinema in Milford Haven. Or you could head to Carmarthen where there’s a bigger cinema and also probably more things to consider. Not overly familiar with Carmarthen activities for kids but I’m sure there’s lots!

Thank you so much. Off to research these!

Are there any old mines to visit nearby?

We did a speedboat last time. Are there any boats where you get off that would be interesting enough for two (sometimes grumpy) kids please?

Coasteering.
If you don’t mind driving to north Pembrokeshire, do the boat trip around Ramsey Island. You can do just the trip around or just land, or both.

Belltentdreamer · 01/08/2023 06:37

Pembroke castle is worth a visit

mumonthehill · 01/08/2023 06:43

Defo wild lakes as you can make a day of it, food fab there as well. Do not forget Dobbys grave if they are into harry potter. I think you may need to embrace the rain this week!!

mumonthehill · 01/08/2023 08:49

Oh and if you need indoors Hanger Five trampoline park in Haverfordwest is good!

icanflytoday · 02/08/2023 11:51

Thanks for this!

I'm actually getting excited now. 😁

Let me know if anyone has anything else!

Our kids have just spent the last week Surfing in the pouring rain, good wetsuit they will be fine, at that age best in a group with adults or a surf school.
