How can I fix this? Passport wait times

So I’ve been a massive idiot and only just managed to get our documents in the post for our passport application (they will receive Wednesday)
Is there any chance of these coming back to us by the 9th? Or should I cancel the applications and try and get an appointment for fast track? At an additional £500+ cost

I think it highly unlikely you will get them back by the 9th tbh but who knows.
It took two weeks for mine with an online application in the dead of winter.

Now it’s in the post how would you cancel it? Is there stuff in the envelope you need for the application or do you have duplicate photos etc?

Mine took 2 weeks and that was in March

TropicalTrama · 24/07/2023 18:34

Yikes, a standard application? You can upgrade an existing application to the 1 week fast track so I would definitely do that. We’ve renewed 3 this year and none were as quick as you need them.

thunderandsunshine01 · 24/07/2023 18:42

The fast track service says you can only apply 6 weeks after they receive your documents. I applied ages ago but totally forgot to send off the docs, kicking myself

Ah missed that part, what a nightmare! If you can cancel and do an appointment instead then I’d do that.

confusedlots · 24/07/2023 19:48

@thunderandsunshine01 I posted my documents 10 days ago and only just received a text today to say they have received them and are processing my application

Changethetoner · 24/07/2023 19:51

my renewal came back in less than a fortnight. (June).

thunderandsunshine01 · 24/07/2023 20:00

ah it’s so hit and miss some people seem to have luck and others not so much.
I think best plan might be to phone tomorrow at 8, ask if they receive my final docs on Wednesday will I then be able to pay to expedite the one week service since they’ve had my application and photos since may. If they say not possible, then trip to the post office at 9 with my proof of postage and hope the collection hasn’t been yet and they will be willing to give back the envelope with all my docs in! Cancel application and apply for in person appt.

Just an update in case anyone refers back to this thread in similar position - passport office confirmed because they received the original application 10 weeks ago once they receive my documents Wednesday it will automatically get fast tracked no additional cost, because it is out of the 10 week guidelines for processing applications. Happy happy days

Amazing what a relief!

thunderandsunshine01 · 10/08/2023 10:39

*Further Update - Passports arrived yesterday PM and we fly out tomorrow AM. Exactly 2 weeks from them receiving my docs on the expedite service. A very lucky escape!
