It's a fairly small quiet town so not a lot locally for entertainment. You're close to the Forest of Dean which has some really good walks and activities - the Sculpture trail at Beechenhurst, Go Ape at Mallards Pike. You can hire bikes in the Forest too and there are some good bike trails.

Puzzlewood also in the FOD is great, seen in quite a few movie sets. There's also the Dean Forest railway. Goodrich Castle ruins are quite close to Monmouth too. Symonds Yat very picturesque and with a nice pub by the river. Chepstow Castle and Tintern Abbey also spring to mind.

Food - Old Court Hotel at Symons’s Yat, butterfly farm opposite but watch the car park at BF, they’re hot on tickets. There’s an online treasure hunt for Monmouth. Up in the Forest of Dean is Mallard;s Pike, Puzzlewoid and, my fav, Perrygrive miniature railway. Also Raglan Farm Park in Raglan.

Lovely, where are you staying? Canoeing down the Wye is brilliant, theres a canoe hire place in Monmouth near the rowing club that I've used personally and they were fab. Also other canoe places so worth a google!
