Manchester: Meal for two old friends on a Sunday evening

I am going to be in Manchester on a Sunday with my oldest friend of 32 years. We both have multiple children and never have time to ourselves, let alone see each other.

We are wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a place we could go for a nice meal with wine - nothing too expensive as we have a limited budget - but still special as it is a rare event!

We are staying near the train station so very central, but don't mind a stroll to a nice place.

Perhaps due to it being a Sunday evening there might be some deals available?

Any advice is welcome! Thank you

Which train station will you be close to?

We’ve had some lovely meals which felt good value at Vincenzo’s Trattoria on St Ann Street. I’m pretty sure they’re open on Sundays.

Oh that seems perfect! We have been for two meals together in the last ten years and both were nice little Italian places. A safe bet she will love this, thank you!

In my opinion the best Italian restaurant in Manchester is Pasta Factory (despite the name!) Small, cosy and pasta to die for. It's on the fringes of the northern quarter (shudehill, not pretty, but easily accessible)

We had a cracking meal in Revolucion de Cuba - bogof cocktails too!

Oh I’d forgotten about Pasta Factory. Yes it’s great there too.

If you’re close to Victoria, The Sparrows is really execellent and great value IMO. Need to book though
