Looking for a cottage holiday in UK - we've done Devon and Cornwall a few times, New Forest, Lake District. DP doesn't want Wales or Scotland. Any one successfully entertained a pre teen active boy, elsewhere?

My pre teen is a girl rather than a boy but we've recently had a few days on the Yorkshire coast and had days out in Whitby, Scarborough, York and Flamingo Land which were a success. Google Ingrid Flute's holiday cottages, they have loads to choose from.

Jurassic Coast, Dorset - Weymouth, Corfe Castle, Tyneham Abandoned Village, Lulworth Cove, Lyme Regis, Durdle Door

Northumberland - Alnwick Castle, Poison Garden, Bamburgh Castle, Farne Islands, Holy Island, Hadrians Wall, Beadnell Beach, Kielder Observatory

We had great holidays in both Dorset coast durdle door / lulworth and Yorkshire coast around whitby as per pp. ( with our active dd 13)

Thankyou! I'll look at Dorset. Northumberland is fab, but only an hour away, so we do "days out" there. DS has always been easy to entertain, but has suddenly hit that difficult to please age. He loves orienteering though, so hopefully might find places to do that.

Lulworth was fab for sup, and kayaking. Lighthouse: portland bill was great, boat trip round poole. Ghost village at tyneham. Corfe Castle, coastal walks...I think the views beat Cornwall!

Peak District

Dorset would be a great choice. Beautiful beaches, corfe castle, Dorset water park, Poole splash down for a rainy day, trip to brownsea island on the ferry, monkey world, new forest isn’t too far for a trip, sealife centre at Weymouth, crazy golf, fossil hunting at Lyme Regis or charmouth. It’s a lovely part of the country. I don’t know about where to stay as it’s all day trip distance from us, but can recommend the area.

Lulworth and Weymouth parts of Dorset are also close to the tank museum, for an indoors sort of day.

If your son likes adventure and you want him to keep exploring, then it sounds like DH needs to change his mind about Scotland and Wales. They both offer multiple holiday options and ideas for the adventurous - and of course they are so big there are multiple places to go visit time and time again....
