Looking to book a holiday.

We don’t usually do U.K. holidays and prefer to save up and have less frequent holidays abroad but this year has been tough so we need a break.

Budget won’t stretch to abroad so looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful in the U.K.

Restricted to school holidays as school age foster children. So somewhere that doesn’t charge insane amounts because of the time of year. Looking at you Centreparcs!

Needs entertainment for older children. 7, 11 and 13 years. Close to a beach. Not an absolute hell hole to be in (Pontins type).

Also not far from north west England, travelling from Cheshire and don’t want a really long journey with bored children.

Need to get something booked ASAP as we’re running out of time.

We can see this thread is quite old now, but if you’ve landed here looking for recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best UK holiday parks page with lots of great suggestions, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users and editors. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

Living on isle of Sheppey in Kent we are local to many caravan parks which have their own clubhouse, children's day time activities etc, and local to beaches of course! Youmay have heard of keys down home to the sandy beach and amusements. Lots of boot sales and markets on Tuesdays and weekends too

There's a Haven near Morecambe Bay. Lakelands.

I was going to say Hafan Y Mor. You can get some good deals.

Haven I am told by friends Hafan Y More is excellent the surrounding area is fantastic that I know well.
If you look on this website they sometimes have privately owned Caravans on big site that are often higher quality and cheaper.

I haven't looked at prices lately but we love Ribby Hall. A bit like Center Parcs but smaller and the activities aren't as expensive!! We have been a few times over the past few years and always have a great time.

My kids are the exact same age and we have just came back from a haven hol (been on loads over the years). Basically they’re too old for the entertainment at this age and it was far too packed to even get in. Everything needs booking weeks in advance like the swimming but overall it’s a cheap and cheerful holiday but it will be our last caravan one. Too on top of each other.

Have a look at the sites in Scotland at the end of august as the schools up here go back in the middle of the month. The Ayrshire coast has some lovely beaches.

I’ve stayed at the Parkdean site at Whitley Bay which tends to be reasonably priced. The site is nothing special but it was quiet, there’s a beach down the road, you can get the bus into Newcastle or a short drive has you in the heart of Northumberland.

The Bay in Filey? Or quite a few Haven sites around that area.

Ipadannie · 04/06/2023 22:25

I would second ribby hall. Blackpool zoo is nearby and it has its own pool and lovely grounds to potter about in.

Decisionfatiguequeen · 04/06/2023 22:34

Probably too far but Chesil Beach in Weymouth is our fave (waterside group)

Blingstar · 04/06/2023 22:37

Haggerston Castle in NE England.

Madwife123 · 05/06/2023 20:09

Thanks, some great options to look at!

TY Mawr is a parkdean resort in North Wales that we love. Loads to do on site but also lovely places to visit a short drive away. Highly recommend it.
