Best day out in Northumberland?

A good friend is coming up to the north east for one day only and I would like to plan a special day out. We will meet in Hexham in the morning and may have a look around the Abbey.
In the past we have had great days out at Alnwick Castle and gardens, Barter books , Chillingham white cattle, Wallington and Belsay.. Our base is Newcastle where we will return for the night.
So hit me with your ideas which do not include any of the above. Oh and they have slight mobility issues so not the Roman Wall.
Thank you so much.

Trip to the Farne Islands? It's one of the best things I have ever done

Lindisfarne with lunch at the Barn at Beal which is v accessible. Beach then Craster Arms near Seahouses for dinner then (longish) drive home.

Cragside!

I love going to see the puffins and seals on a boat trip from Seahouses. We went last week and it was fab. The puffins are there at the moment and the boat gets really up close to them and the other sea birds.

Lindisfarne.

Forgot to say we went with Serenity Farne Island Boat Tours and the trip was great. You can park quite near the harbour so not too far to walk.

@MadeInChorley great suggestion. Will check the tides for that day

@Crazymadchickenlady Serious question. I have heard this can be a very “smelly” trip! Is this true?

This is making me so homesick for Northumberland! I'd second Beamish and Holy Island.

It was a bit smelly but not too bad and only when we were right next to the birds so only for about 5 mins or so from the whole two hour trip.

We also did Holy Island and I’ve done Beamish in the past but the puffin boat trip is definitely my favourite.

Holy island isn’t great of her mobility isn’t very good , you can park in the disabled carpark to look around the village but the walk to the priory etc are very long. I’d suggest beamish too
