UK long term visit visa for Lebanese citizen

Does anyone have any experience of gaining a long term tourist visa for then UK, particularly for a Lebanese citizen?

My boyfriend is Lebanese - works in Lebanon and comes to visit me a fair amount, occasionally on a sporting visa (he competes nationally) but also using a 6 month visit visa.

This year we have a few events we want to do together but they are more than six months apart so figure it might be worth applying for the two year one rather than going through tourist visa application twice.

Is a 2 year visit visa harder to get? Would stating that it is to visit someone that he is in a relationship with prejudice him in any way (because he might seem like he's trying to live here - which he isn't! He has a stable job at home).

Any insight or advice?
