Unusual but child friendly restaurant in London?

I’m having a weekend away with my 10yo in London soon to watch Cursed Child. I’d really like to take him somewhere a bit different for food (we’re rural SW so not much opportunity round these parts). The problem is that he’s quite a fussy eater and won’t eat anything too out there.

Any suggestions? Ideally something that’s a bit of an experience if such a place exists.

Rain Forest Cafe which is now called the Jungle Cave?

londonmummy1966 · 17/04/2023 21:54

The mezzanine at Fortnum & Mason, Hard Rock Cafe on Picadilly, Sartori in Covent Garden,

The restaurant within the giant monopoly place, the shard or if all else fails there's a good Wetherspoons on Baker Street as you come out of the underground station

Useyourfork · 17/04/2023 22:09

Hard Rock Cafe. We went to the Oxford street one and they had live music on from 6.30 pm. Nice food too.
Read the reviews on the Jungle Cave if you’re thinking about going there.

China town?
Or there's the Asian one where you choose from the screen on the table, can't remember the name but try to Google it

Sticks n Sushi are good with kids. As is Ave Mario - both Covent Garden.

That's it!

That's a fun experience for a kid

Ghostlyfeet · 17/04/2023 22:18

Dear god don't go to the jungle cafe!!! It is awful!! It has gone so downhill and the food and service is rubbish now!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/04/2023 23:34

The monopoly place is called The Top Hat. Never been, but really want to!

Singleorigincoffee · 17/04/2023 23:39

Chinatown for dimsum?

They' should be used to the Sunday Chinese family crowd with kids and it's not super fancy.

Fillybuster · 17/04/2023 23:42

The Ivy restaurants (yes, I know it’s a chain….) are mostly beautiful, with super quirky design, friendly staff and a surprisingly interesting and well priced menu. My dcs have all loved it when I’ve had the opportunity to take them to one of the central London venues.

MyMNprofile · 18/04/2023 00:30

Thanks so much for all the ideas - off to Google now. I took both my dc’s to the Jungle Cave for a London treat about a year ago and walked about before we even got seated, it was horrendous.

Is the 10yr old DS an influencer ??! Grin

Wiennetta · 24/04/2023 23:26

You could look at one of the themed afternoon teas. Quite a few options which are geared towards kids - even some Harry Potter ones. If your DS is a bit fussy, it might be a good option? Fairly simple cakes, sandwiches etc.

Gooseysgirl · 24/04/2023 23:34

You can't really go wrong with Bills in Covent Garden link

theministerscat · 24/04/2023 23:53

We always go to Chinatown for dim sum when we're in town; when we went to Cursed Child, we went between parts 1&2. I find that kids often enjoy dumplings, and definitely crispy duck w pancakes.

Jumpersaurus · 24/04/2023 23:56

Science Afternoon tea in the Ampersand Hotel would be perfect for a 10 year old - it's a fantastic experience

Verite1 · 25/04/2023 00:45

Chinatown always fun for kids. My DS loves it. Don’t go to inamo - food has gone really downhill.

ChickenSoupAndLokshen · 25/04/2023 00:49

Yo sushi - with a conveyor belt?

HanSB · 25/04/2023 02:36

Shake shack for burgers in Covent Garden piazza or Charlie and the Chocolate factory afternoon tea at 1 Aldwych
