North Wales, where to stay?

Hi, we're going to north Wales in June (2 nights/3 days) taking son and friend to a carting venue in LL21 (which I think is Conwy).

I've never been to Wales so would be really grateful for recommendations on where to stay. Would prefer to stay in a town rather than rural location and would need to be within an hour of the karting venue.

Help, please :)

LL21 is a very rural postcode, do you know if the place is more to the East, West etc? No real towns in the postcode area but if you give me a better location for the go kart place I can advise :)

Thanks @Hopingforno2in2023, I'll look now and come right back!

The full postcode of the karting venue is LL21 0RU - does that help at all?

I think the biggest towns within an hour of that area are Oswestry and Wrexham. Conwy and Porthmadog might just be within an hour, and are a bit more holiday-ish.

Fab thank you :) Not far from me! Betws-y-coed is your nearest town. Very pretty with great walking and as many outdoors shops as you like but not much else. There will be plenty of accommodation though and there are restaurants. Slightly further up in Llanrwst which is also v attractive. Then there is Bala which again is very beautiful with a lovely lake but a small town again. Ruthin is a good option though, bigger town but still very nice as is Llangollen. If you want a town I would go for either Ruthin or Llangollen. They are both about half an hour from that postcode.

Betws-y-coed and Beddgelert are both nice and have lots of facilities, they are both popular tourist spots so should have lots of accommodation options.

These are great suggestions too. Wrexham not very attractive but plenty to do there. Conwy is beautiful.

That's between Ruthin and Corwen. I wouldn't stay at Corwen although the kebab shop there does really nice kebabs and cheesy chips.

Ruthin is nice to stay at. There's Ruthin castle for afternoon tea, some nice shops, the craft centre which is a reasonable size art gallery

thisismyname2016 · 14/04/2023 15:54

Thank you so much everyone. I will look into all the options.

Thanks!

Also whilst you are in the area, Ryan Reynolds has just bought a house in Marford if a little light celebrity stalking bumping into is your thing...

thisismyname2016 · 14/04/2023 15:59

@Mycathatesmecuddling I just realised Ryan Reynolds was connected to Wrexham so I'm moving there permanently!

My only contribution is to check whether you're planning to take an EV into North Wales? If so, there be (Welsh) dragons! It can be done, I have done it several times, but it is not to be undertaken without some preparation. (Actually the best option in that part of the world is in the LL21 postcode, so that's something!)

If you want a town and don't mind an hour drive try Chester.
Conwy - Wrexham -

😂Good choice!

LlynTegid · 14/04/2023 18:46

Chester has a wide choice and is not too far. If there is nothing in Wrexham because of the promotion party (here's hoping!!)

Its a great part of the world, Conwy area is really nice.
I would look at the Llandudno, Conwy area loads to see and do the track is about an hours drive but its a nice drive just A roads and spectacular scenery

Llandudno. Beach, walk, tram, pizza hut, kfc, McDonald’s for the kids

chimchimina · 23/04/2023 14:56

I recommend Llandudno. Loads of choice of places to stay, plus it's beautiful and fairly peaceful.
