Where would you suggest? Can be a city or county as long as plenty to keep a 6 and 13 year old amused. We are in London so preferably no more than 4 hours drive from there. Early May so probably not beach weather. Thanks.

We used to take ours to Suffolk and stay in Aldeburgh or Southwold. Always had a good time. Castles, beaches, walks, shops.

Alton towers hotel

Train to York or Edinburgh

NewNovember · 10/04/2023 18:30

Sticking with the train theme but Liverpool , less than 2.5 hours.

Blackberry wood campsite in sussex they have great converted vehicles like double decker bus to stay in all with comfy beds, heating, bathroom etc. Plenty to do nearby.

We took ours to Liverpool at half term which was fab. Loads of museums are free.

We're off to the peak district tomorrow for 4 days. Cycling, visiting caves, hiking, eating bakewell pudding. Staying in youth hostels makes it cheap. You can also cook meals, eat out or many hostels do catering - and it's good food! Many accessible by train.

Train to York.
Loads to to.
You could easily fill 2-3 days with dc.

We're also off to the Peaks with bikes tomorrow, also youth hostelling!

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads we'll look out for you on the monsall trail!

We've done Suffolk, train to York, Sandy Balls in the new Forest and also Isle of Wight. Isle of Wight was when we knew it wouldn't be beach weather but still good fun!

Verite1 · 11/04/2023 16:54

Thanks all for the ideas. We have done Edinburgh, York and new forest recently. Will check out some of the other suggestions.

Lake district? 4 hours 30 mins drive to penrith. Next week it will be warm in the high teens/ low twenty’s!

Verite1 · 14/04/2023 09:26

I would love to go back to Lake District but think it’s just too long a drive for 2/3 nights from London. Think it needs more time. But thanks again.

Swansea/Gower! Loads of lovely beaches with enough rock pools to keep the kids occupied for hours, no matter what the weather is like.

drinkingcream · 14/04/2023 09:46

Wales? Lovely beaches

Verite1 · 16/04/2023 17:01

Thanks for all the suggestions. We have booked Suffolk as we have never been. Thanks again.
