Can any one help me find cheap two day travel cards for travelling around London? I’m getting so confused!

Just use your debit card and it caps it as a daily travel card.

Drynvg342 · 01/04/2023 19:56

@CindersAgain how do I do this? Sorry very inexperienced at trains in general.

Tap it as you go through the barrier and then on exit. Just watch everyone else ☺️

RoyGBivisacolorfulman · 01/04/2023 19:57

How do we do this for under 15s? I am confused too.

CindersAgain · 01/04/2023 19:57

By exit, I mean when you go through the barrier at the station you’re going to.

Get an i tester card at a station and a member of staff will put a visitor discount in it for you

It’s for 2 adults and 2 kids for two days. I was wondering what’s the cheapest way to buy?

Do they not have a debit card? I’d buy an Oyster card for them then. Load some
money on it, and then proceed as if it’s a debit card.

Your debit card would be best for adults

How old are the kids?

CindersAgain · 01/04/2023 19:59

Oyster card or debit card will both charge you the cheapest daily travel card price at the end of the day.

10 and 12 @teacakie

@CindersAgain

Debit cards are not the best as you can't get the discount applied for kids

CindersAgain · 01/04/2023 20:01

Paper travel cards work too for a child, if you have a family rail card you might want to do that.

RoyGBivisacolorfulman · 01/04/2023 20:01

Can you just pick oyster cards up at stations?

teacakie · 01/04/2023 20:01

10 and 12 @teacakie

Yeah just get a couple of oyster cards at the station and ask a member of staff to apply a visitor discount. You and DH use your debit cards. If you have Apple Pay you can use that but don't mix and match between card and Apple even for the same account as it will not match them together and you won't get a door cap applied

Yeah, you’re right.

teacakie · 01/04/2023 20:04

Actually you might want to check travel cards, the Oyster cards are not refundable anymore. I forgot about that, they are £7 each so for 2 days you might just want a travel card for the kids

Drynvg342 · 01/04/2023 20:05

Ok thanks for your help

Also I have just register the ages. Your 10 yo will not pay.

Drynvg342 · 01/04/2023 20:09

The 10 year old will be free?

OP posts:
teacakie · 01/04/2023 20:11

Sorry ignore me that's wrong

LostMySocks · 01/04/2023 20:12

Travel for under 10s is free on TfL (tubes, buses, DLR, Elizabeth line). On buses they just go on beside you. On the tube go to the big family gate and tap your contactless card and the two of you walk through together.

Under 10s have to pay on the clipper commuter boats (think currently called Uber boats?) Along the Thames and also on the cable car. But still cheaper

LostMySocks · 01/04/2023 20:13

I should add if you have a a tall or old looking 10year old you might want to carry some sort of proof of age like a birth certificate in case you are challenged.

Drynvg342 · 01/04/2023 20:14

So is it 10 or under 10 that are free?
