Living around Chard, Somerset

We're looking at upping sticks and moving to a house with land on the outskirts of Chard in Somerset... nothing I read seems positive about Chard, but the distance from the house to the town is the same distance from where we are now to some not particularly favourable places and we don't bat an eyelid! Also, no one tends to write things about their town unless they're negative, so I'd love to know if some people actually like living there! My only concern is schools... are there any recommendations for primary schools in the surrounding areas? We have some really good local schools in West Sussex where we are now and I'd hate to move my son to somewhere and his education suffer.

It's okay... Crime is high for what it is though. May not be the case for what it is now but it used to be the most dangerous town in England for it's size. Most crime is antisocial and vandalism/arson. Some good shops and looks quite pretty
