What to do in London

My SIL and I are going to London for a couple of nights. We've got tickets for to Kill A Mockingbird but what else should we do. She's never done any of the galleries or museums, I've done some of them but not for years. If you had 48hrs in London what would you do?! I'm sure I read in a thread about a hidden 1940's bar somewhere but I can't find it now. Something quirky like that would be great as we're not overly keen on the standard touristy stuff. Please give me your recommendations for a great London experience

Victoria and Albert Museum is usually good, lovely cafe and shop too. I like the fashion and ceramics galleries.

If it's in the next 6 weeks, I'd recommend looking at The Vault festival by Waterloo for quirky stuff vaultfestival.com/ - loads and loads of short fringe shows in atmospherically ramshackle railway arches (that you enter through a massive tunnel covered in graffiti with interesting bars/restaurants along it) - it's very 'London'

If you want to see something weird there's the Viktor Wynd Museum in Hackney - www.thelasttuesdaysociety.org/museum/ a collection of weird and sightly disturbing stuff! It's near Broadway Market which has very hipster-y cafes, pubs, and some lovely shops. You can also walk along the canal for instagrammable views.

The hidden 1940's bar is Cahoots. Dh and I are going in March and we are so excited. They have a website and fb page. Check them out.

I really like the sir John soames museum, small annd quirky, and you can wander round inns of court too. Some great proper London pubs there.

there’s some fun walking tours.

if you go to V&a there’s some free curator tours that take you to quirky items.

I liked the sky garden, you can book or queue on the day….

Cahoots is the bar - definitely book if you’re going at the weekend.
depending what you like doing - look at Time out for current exhibitions / events. I like the Museum of London, John Soames House, Wellcome Collection. River boat trip is always fun. Or walking tours. I like walking by Regents canal through Camden and King’s Cross

Two Temple Place. Boat to or from Greenwich or Canary Wharf after dark when the bridges are lit up.
