Yorvik is good , the steam train runs from
whitby up to Pickering way and is a good afternoon out - you can do afternoon tea on it. Boat trip in Whitby maybe or a visit to the abbey via the jet shops

Take the steam train (North Yorkshire Moors Railway) from Whitby to Goathland (Hogsmeade Station in the first Harry Potter film). Goathland station has a very cute tea room and then you could walk along the Rail Trail to Grosmont and take the train back to Whitby.
Robin Hood’s Bay is definitely worth a visit.

Agree with both of these suggestions. If you do the Rail Trail nip up to Beck Hole and see if the tiny sweet shop and pub are open - both amazing!
I'd also suggest walking at the Hole of Horcum.
Is it just you travelling and do you have access to a car?

Helmsley and Rievaulx abbey
Sutton bank for walks (careful of steep drop)
sunny/warm days - best beaches are Sandsend and Runswick Bay

in York, with kids castle museum and yorvik museum are both good. Young teens, dungeons is good

Dalby forest

Look for jet and fossils on the beach at Whitby. Then have fish and chips!

Staithes
Robin hoods bay
Whitby abbey
Saltburn on sea
day trip to Scarborough

Love Whitby, there is so much to do within the town and on foot. We walk to staithes which is a long but amazing walk and get the bus back, same with Robin hoods bay.

Bus service is great.

There are so many lovely places to visit - it's one of my favourite parts of the UK.

Staithes or Robin Hoods Bay for lovely little fishing villages
Sandsend or Saltburn for the beach - you can hire a beach hut with your name on it at Saltburn
Whitby for the Abbey and mooch around interesting little shops
Coast path for walking - lots of options to walk and get the bus back
Get the steam train towards Pickering, with lots of options to get off and walk on the moors
Dalby Forest for walking, cycling, Go Ape etc

The White Hart pub at Sansend does the most amazing pub meals.
Try some of the market towns, Beverley and Richmond are particularly nice.

Spotsstripes · 30/01/2023 19:25

Day in Scarborough and Sandsend.
Whitby to pickering steam trains (make it a full day and visit Goathland to).
York - railway museum, Castle museum, River trip, walk the walls, art gallery.
Whitby has a lovely park at top and museum also can take boat trips.
Fish and chips in Whitby.
Bothams for coffee and cake.

we stayed in Thornton le dale and got the bus to Whitby (I think it starts in York)
