Lake District - Easter or Summer Hols?

We are planning a trip to the Lake District for the first time this year. I know that parts of it can get mega busy.
Those of you who are seasoned travellers to the Lakes - do you think there is much difference in crowd size between Easter and the summer hols? Would you rather go at Easter or in Summer?
Any advice or tips would be very welcome! Thanks!

I live in the Lakes and I'd say they are both pretty busy but I suppose over Easter it's more of a concentrated business over the bank holiday whereas in the summer it's more spread out.

That should have said "busyness" not "business"

I’d rather go in the summer, but try to to arrive or depart on a Friday or Saturday!

Summer. More chance of better weather.

It depends what you want to do and where you want to go.
Its massively busy through the trunk of the lakes (windermere, Ambleside and up to Keswick) in summer.
But it'll probably still be cold at Easter.

We were in Ullswater last August and although it was busy, it wasn't unpleasantly busy.

I live up here. In early April it'll still be cold.

Summer better.

Just avoid the hotspots and go up to eg eskdale/cockermouth
