Tell me about Whitby

Picture a scene; after a bump on the head I wake up and find myself mysteriously in Whitby.

Luckily, I have some good books and knitting beside me and some money, but not lots. I can’t find my car keys, but some kind (or are they sinister?) soul has left me a bus ticket which will allow me to leave in 4 long days time.

Looking out of my window I can see a ruined abbey, so will definitely have a poke around there.

Where can I go for good walks and what should I do when it isn’t raining?

Walk to sandsend and beyond along the beach, we make it to Staithes and bus it back. Robin hoods bay the other way, bus back.

Stroll around the cobbled streets, lunch in the Abbey Wharf overlooking the harbour.

Definitely tour the abbey.

Love Whitby so much.

I’m grateful for so many suggestions, it sounds as though there’s plenty to do and see, thank you all.

the mystery picnic sounds fun but not for one person so I will give that a miss.

Yes to buying an OS map; my favourite thing to do on any adventure.

The walk along the river to Ruswarp is lovely. Fish and chips at Hadleys.

You need to go to the lucky duck shop and get your own duck in your birthday colour. It's almost obligatory.
