Pembrokeshire/Mid Wales/West Wales summer holiday with teens

We are going to a wedding in S Wales on a weekday in August. Since this'll be about a 6 hour drive, we are planning to extend this and have our summer holiday down there.

The DC will be nearly 12 and nearly 15. I'm outdoorsy, DH and the DC are less so, but would possibly camp if it was a lovely location.

I don't really know the area - I've had a look at the Bluestone website. Could be a go-er. We'd love to be by the sea.

Can anyone recommend any areas to stay - sea, adventure sport, castles, mountain biking, water sports - would all be appreciated. Need 3 bedrooms though. No way would DS and DD share anymore!

Mountain biking - Afan Argoed
Castles - Caerphilly is great and one of the biggest in the south. But loads around that area (from Cardiff heading west)
Beaches - Gower over Pembrokeshire would be my preference
Surfing - can't recommend but plenty in that general S Wales area
Mountains- climb Pen Y Fan

I was coming on to say Saundersfoot too. A great area with lots to do around and about.

But how would camping work when getting ready for wedding? (Missing the point maybe?!)

I get your point! The wedding is on a Thursday, so we'd travel on the Wednesday, spend the night before and after in a Premier Inn and then go on to our main holiday. To be honest, knowing the guests, we wouldn't look out of place in mountain biking gear!

Fab, I'll look into Saundersfoot.

I used to climb at Three Cliffs Bay, and once got briefly arrested in St David's...... but that was 30 years ago and without children.

St David’s is lovely. It has a couple of campsites. You might enjoy coasteering. Tenby is beautiful, and a nice walk from Saundersfoot along the cliffs.

The campsite at Whitesands has amazing views. It gets really busy in the summer but is good for surfing.

TYF in St David’s was the first company to monetise coasteering and they’re worth the money.

Don't forget to report back

My mum and dad used to have a cottage in Pembrokeshire and we spent some great weekends down there. St David’s is lovely. We also like Tenby and the harbour there. A really great walk is bosherton lily ponds. There’s a nature reserve with a gorgeous secluded beach at the end of it.

Bit further on from Tenby.
Easy walk down to the nearest beach too.

A day in Cardiff would be good. Castle, shopping and Museums in the centre, get a boat out to the bay, see The Senedd and the Norwegian church, white water rafting, ice skating and The national swimming pool opposite a bit further down.
