Bude in Cornwall and Weston-Super-Mare - what shall I do while I'm there?

We're stopping in Weston-Super-Mare overnight so won't be there for long but any top tips.

Then we carry on journey to Bude in Cornwall, where we'll stay for a week.

What is there to do and see and where should we drive to while we're there?

PS - we're going in Aug so it should hopefully be nice weather

I would embrace the British seaside and go on the peir and have fish and chips out of the wrapper on the beach.

I've not tried every chippy in the area but the one opposite the end of the peir on the corner is usually pretty good. We have been in a few other cafes and some are a bit naff/grim.

At the opposite end of the beach to the peir is a sweet miniature railway with a little tea hut for a cuppa/ice creams. In busy periods it is nice that end of the beach as is generally quieter and kids can have more.

If you are near the mini-railway, cross over the grass area in the middle so you are on the other side of the road to the beach and walk towards the peir, there is quite a nice little park just down one of the right hand turns which has a cafe and a playground.

WSM is a bit rough but in nice weather the sandy beach is v. good (and donkeys) and there is actually a really impressive aquarium on the pier which is really worth a visit.

or we will come to Weston (nt the nicest of places) and see you.

i want to say something positive about WSM but afaraid i cant. its yucksville. i lived there for 6 yrs and even hate going back for the odd day trip. i would stay in your hotel if you can and not venture out . def dont go out in the eve esp if its bank holiday!

sorry if i have mortally wounded anyone who lives in wsm thats just my experience (oh and dh is weston born and bred!!)

I like Bude. If the weather is lovely I bet you spend most of the time on the beach, it's a really old fashioned seaside place.

Tintagel is a short drive down the coast, and it is worth going there and walking around the coast there (if you like walking). It really is beautiful.

There is also a small theme park place called Brocklands, think it is in a place called Kilkhampton which is on the Devon/Cornwall border, it has soft play insode, outside areas, bowling, nature walks etc. It was quite cheap when we went there, all on a small scale the kids really enjoyed it.

There is also a village called Clovelly which is really pretty, that is just over the border in Devon.

Whilst your in Weston - hmm, only recommendation is to leave as soon as possible Possibly a bit harsh but Weston is a bit grim!

Bude is lovely - but dont expect a tacky seaside place - no arcades, etc. I can't believe how many people expect all the stereotypical grotty tackiness when they holiday in the UK.
It depends what you like to do on your hols. There is (or was) a bowling place near Morrisons (easy to find), but other than that, its all walks and fresh air in the countryside, or rowing on the canal (if it's open yet. There's a nice restaurant/nightclub at Widemouth Manor (about 2 miles from Bude) they have a big outdoor play area and do reasonable food.
If the weather is good, there's a nice walk up the canal (about three miles I think) that leads to a secluded farm house that sells cream teas and other light food - but once again, that depends on whether it's open at this time of year.
If you want more to do - you have to travel fair distances.
Bude and surrounding areas are gorgeous place if you like a nice quiet pace of life - otherwise forget it.
Before we moved to Cornwall - We took my brother and his family to Bude on holiday, after warning them that there is nothing there and they absolutely hated it (we love it of course). For some reason, he didnt believe us when we warned him how little there was to spend money on.

WSM - well you'll enjoy Bude all the mroe for it

It is grotty but I would just grab fish and chips, sit on the seafront and relax OR perhaps pop along the coast to brean- Animal Farm there is lovely for LO's and has a nice play area as well, we were members when we lived locally.

there's also Cribbs causeway for shopping if you stopped up there (bristol, right on the junction) or its easy enough from Weston to pop to Cheddar, Glastonbury or Street (Clarks Village) from WSM.
