I'm being treated to a weekend in Edinburgh next month for a special birthday by DH, and looking for recommendations where we could go for tea?

We arnt really fussy eaters, just no fish.

The Balmoral hotel, Royal Yacht Britannia, top floor Harvey Nichols. There is a chain called Mimi's Bakehouse.

tea as in dinner not afternoon tea??
What sort of thing do you want (other than not fish!), or more importantly, what sort of budget?

The Withchery is lovely but I’ve not been for a few years. If you like Chinese Tattu is good. There are the usual chains such as the Ivy and Hawksmoor. The dome has been good in the past but you must book for this time of the year as the Christmas lights are all up.

Henderson’s - it’s a lovely veggie restaurant.
Baba - Middle Eastern.
Mother India’s Cafe.
Scran & Scallie - modern Scottish.
Leftfield - Bistro.

Henderson’s closed. And it was never really a place for a treat.

Do you mean afternoon tea, an evening meal (dinner or supper) or something else???

I too was going to recommend the Witchery, for lunch or dinner, but also not been there in several years.

It may not fit the bill, but we had a wonderful evening at Rollo on Broughton Street, in September 2019. It's just a two-minute walk from the tram stop at York Place. It's a stylish wine bar with a relaxed food offer of small plates and bowls. We liked the atmosphere and the more casual way of eating and the food was excellent — the best we had, and we went to the Dome and a couple of other highly recommended places. I'd be back there in an instant.

The Dome for afternoon tea and Mama Roma is the most amazing Italian!

@midsomermurderess it closed, a new one reopened. It’s lovely. Have a look at the reviews.
