48hr London Itinerary For 16yr Old Niece.

So my 16yr old niece (in law) will be visiting London for the first time from Thursday AM to Saturday noon.

Although she lives in Yorkshire and has visited some European countries she's managed to avoid London her whole life. What would she most enjoy?

We've booked a matinee she choose and a restaurant catering to her favourite cuisine. We live just on the river so can get around fairly easily.

What places will you recommend we take her?

I love markets but can't think of any fun one that will be open then.

Portobello Road or Camden?
She might like a wander round Kings X, or Soho or Selfridges.
Or Kings Road/Sloane Square.
Or Borough Market/Bermondsay St/South Bank
Or Shoreditch

Or instead of by location, go on a trip round say doughnut or cupcake or falafel or burger places
These are the things my dd enjoyed at 16yo

She also loved going to Planet Organic and Wholefoods.

I think Portobello Market is open on a Friday or just found this ( google only so would check before setting off ) - Covent Garden a bit less trendy that eg Camden lock I guess but she might like it and the street theatre & General walking around and v near National Gallery / Portrait Gallery if that interests her - no need to stay for long in either - whizz to what may ineterst her . But here as a starter for 10 - not sure how accurate - haven't been to all of these by any means. www.streetsensation.co.uk/markets.htm

If she has never been to London before then if she is interested then maybe a boat trip down the river weather permitting or a quick bus sightseeing trip

The Saatchi Gallery often have interesting and free exhibitions

Depends on her interests I suppose so if you know what those are I am sure others can give better suggestions.

Oops x post with @gulliblestravels - Actually my neice in law used to love a mooch down the Kings Road . There are lots of High St shops but also some more unusual ones. especially the further away from Sloane Square. I would google Time Out "what's on" as well for the dates she is here. My niece went to a really esoteric little exhibition she find on there which I had never heard of.

I think with the amount of time she has , ask if there is something she really wants to do or try to find things which are within reasonable reach of each other rather than try to do everything - I remain yours , The Professor of the Beeding Obvious 😊

Would she like Camden market? You could get a canal boat from Little Venice to Camden market, it takes about 40 mins then have a wander exploring the markets.
Or Borough market for food?
Look around Covent Garden shops and Seven dials market for food.
Any exhibits at galleries or museums she might enjoy?

Camden and the natural History museum. My dd also loved the lego store.

She might enjoy a trip on the Dockland Light Railway as something a bit different.

What is she interested in? I hated clothes shopping at that age but liked non-clothes shops.

Sightseeing walk: Trafalgar Square; through Admiralty Arch; up the Mall towards Buckingham Palace (might not go the whole way); into St James' Park and around the lake; through Horse Guards; down Whitehall pointing out Downing Street & the Cenotaph; Parliament Square; Houses of Parliament.

Walk along the river at some point, eg South Bank to Tate Modern; across Millennium Bridge; St Paul's from the outside.

Bit out of the way but Gods own junkyard is great.
