Recommendations for a pretty, small town between Leed and Edinburgh?

We're driving up to Edinburgh tomorrow from Leeds and have time to stop somewhere on the way.

We will be travelling up the A1 from Leeds. Any recommendations for a pretty, small town or other toursit attraction that we could visit?

I’d stop at Durham or Alnwick, both gorgeous little towns.

Bamburgh castle would be a nice place to stop.

Alnwick or Morpeth.

Alnwick or Berwick for a well deserved break and/or little visit to the stunning beaches up there. Ooh, fish and chips by the sea? Will take you about 3 hours from Leeds on a decent run.

Thank you- some great ideas!

Well if your eyes feel a bit tired you could always swing by Barnard Castle to check them....

Alnmouth - about 4 miles off the A1 near Alnwick. Lovely beach, nice deli for takeaway lunch.

Hexham?
Alnwick or Walkworth?
Berwick?

MendaciousMabel · 21/10/2022 20:21

Alnwick or Berwick, there isn't really a lot that's easily accessible once you get further up the A1

Worth going to Amble just for this.

Dammit it didn’t quote “barnard castle”

We stopped off at Richmond North Yorkshire. It was a lovely little village with a castle and little food and gift shops.

@Useyourfork , unless Richmond has shrunk its definitely not a village.

It was a long time ago and I have a selective memory. 😊
