Weekend break near Bristol

Have to travel to Bristol soon and we’ve decided to combine with a weekend break for our anniversary.
Any ideas where to stay, hotels, things to do etc?
Thanks!

My immediate thought is Bath. You certainly wouldn’t be short of things to do - No 1 Royal Crescent, Roman baths, Sally Lunn’s, Jane Austen museum etc…. Accommodation can be v expensive but last time we stayed we managed to find good rates at Brooks Guesthouse.

Two other options (albeit rather touristy) would be Cheddar and Castle Combe.

The Pig Hotel near Bath is brilliant!

I quite like Bristol itself! Last time I was around the area I did a night in Bristol and a night in Bath. In Bristol I went over to Clifton for dinner and a mooch around the bars, visited the SS Great Britain in the day and had a general wander. As others have said plenty to do in Bath too, some nice places to stay but a bit pricier.

The Wye valley is quite close and the Forest of Dean. Visit a couple of castles, Tintern Abbey, Symonds Yat, Ross on Wye. You could stay in Chepstow or Monmouth.

Don't miss the Westonbirt Arboretum if you are going soon. The autumn colours will be magnificent.

You’ll need to book tickets if you do - just a warning. The traffic cones are out, and queues are forming at the weekends now. (I live very close by and have to pass it to get - well, anywhere really!)

My son lives in Bristol..as a massive treat I stayed at hotel du vin with my friend from NZ looking out over the gorge and bridge . Has a spectacular view and bar …the cost for us was about £140 .

We've just booked a stay in the Harbour Hotel. Usually just stay in a Premier Inn.

The shipping containers at Whapping Wharf are fun for causal food - we like Root.

Clifton bridge a must-visit.

A day in Bath - maybe the rooftop pool?

A great place to go for a family Weekend out is Almondsbury Creative, there are events like the Summer Carnival just gone where there were loads of kids' activities and a Taylor Swift tribute. They've got a country music festival for families in September too. Plus, there is a cider and pie festival, which I'm so excited about!
