Due to be going next week Mon - Fri and just received an email that they're closing all parks due to the BH and we can't arrive until Tues.
Trying to keep it in context in that this is an incredibly unexpected circumstance, but can't help but feel quite annoyed that we're now losing a day and a night of our holiday and even on the Tues can't check in until 3pm. They're offering a free cancellation or 30% refund, but those are the dates we've got agreed with our group and would be too complicated to find another week to go so just really peeeeeeed off!!

Oh OP I would be absolutely fuming! More virtue signalling. I thought all these companies were on their knees financially due to covid but they can all now afford to turn business away? Utter madness. I hope you are being fully compensated.

abovedecknotbelow · 13/09/2022 12:18

Yep I'd be pissed off too.

confusedlots · 13/09/2022 12:22

That's really annoying, it's not like they close on other bank holidays. What about people staying Friday to Monday? Do they have to leave on Sunday?

jackstini · 13/09/2022 12:27

Alton Towers hotel apparently doing the same

Don't blame you at all for being annoyed

sheepandcaravan · 13/09/2022 12:32

@confusedlots no Monday by 10.

BUT those staying Friday to Friday have to leave Monday and come back Tuesday, and are being given 17 percent off......

Imagine that packing nightmare.

princesssparklepants · 13/09/2022 12:35

This is beyond weird.... at a push you'd reckon they'd just postpone activities.. but why close the entire place to guests?? Madness

whenwillthemadnessend · 13/09/2022 12:35

That's nuts. I get a day trip place shutting but a hotel or holiday resort needs to accommodate there guests regardless surely!!

ThatsGoingToHurt · 13/09/2022 12:41

I feel sorry for the people who have driven 3+ hours. If they are staying Friday to Friday then why on earth can they stay in their accommodation! CP could have just cancelled all the activities that day and people could have watch the funeral in their lodge. If I had booked I would have been fuming as 17% wouldn’t cover the cost of a last minute hotel room - that’s assuming you could find one!

AuntieDolly · 13/09/2022 12:41

What are they going to do if people don't leave?

AuntieDolly · 13/09/2022 12:43

I think I'd take the 30%. We used to arrive in the morning, park up and enjoy the day and get the cases later. Don't sit in the 3pm queue.

confusedlots · 13/09/2022 12:43

I'm all for letting people watch the funeral but I think that's a really bad decision by centerparcs. Would have been much more sensible to cancel activities for a few hours and have put the funeral on the big tv in the sports bar.

Whitewolf2 · 13/09/2022 12:49

Stupid decision by Centre Parcs, I’d be really annoyed if I had booked this week. It doesn’t make any sense, they don’t close for bank holidays, or any other days!?.
Show the funeral, reduce the services at 11am while it’s happening, but making people go home for the day is nuts.

DillonPanthersTexas · 13/09/2022 12:55

Pack plenty of lube..........oh wait.

justaladyLOL · 13/09/2022 13:06

It is a historic moment
Their staff will want to see it
Your kids playing is not all that important to people who work there on minimum wage

Creepymanonagoatfarm · 13/09/2022 13:10

30 %off is great!!
How very inconvenient The Queen died and ruined your trip.

Smsquared · 13/09/2022 13:23

@Creepymanonagoatfarm not really when we can't access lodges until 4pm Tues so are losing a whole day. By the time you unpack and get kids settled it's bedtime and you've then only got Weds/Thurs as full days as have to check out by 10am Fri. Why not close restaurants, pool etc, operate with a skeleton staff and observe a silence across the park as a sign of respect. Disrupting 1000s of people's precious holidays isn't considering the bigger picture. I think it's commercial suicide for them tbh.

Ridiculous business decision, especially if booked Friday - Friday !

35965a · 13/09/2022 13:27

Absolutely stupid decision

DillonPanthersTexas · 13/09/2022 13:35

It is a historic moment
Their staff will want to see it

And you know this how???

I imagine most staff employees across the UK will be grateful for a lie in before keeping half an eye on the TV and getting on with other stuff in their lives.

For many freelancers/self employed they will be annoyed that they have lost days wages without any say in the matter.

For those that want to mourn the Queen, crack on, but please don't impose mandatory days of mourning on others.

whenwillthemadnessend · 13/09/2022 14:11

Sadly I doubt they will suffer. People still book it.

Look at the way the airlines treated people
