London travel

I'm not all that familiar with London aside from superficial site seeing. I'm taking a friend - who has been like a second Mum since mine passed away - to London for their first time in November. I have days planned (major sites, Thames Clipper, afternoon tea) but am panicking about one bit of travel. How on a Sunday evening would you get from the London Eye to Vauxhall Travelodge? Her mobility is okay but not great, we'll only have one debit card so I think that rules out buses. Will there just be a taxi I can hail? Sorry for the obvious question, I think it is the sense of obligation to one of the world's loveliest ladies means I am over thinking it. Thanks in advance.

Uses run from the main road which is a few minutes walk from the London eye. From the Eye you walk away from the river in a straight line, cross the main road and there’s the bus stop.
need either contactless or an oyster/travel card

buses

If one of you doesn’t have a contactless card / Apple or Google Pay they can use, I would buy an Oyster card and top it up at the first station you arrive to. It’s £5 but well worth it for the ease of being able to get on a bus first thing in the morning / whenever you need, without having to worry about getting to a station to buy a paper ticket first.

There may well be a black cab to hail but it will cost a lot. Uber may be a better bet for cabs, but it’s a bit unreliable/slow at the moment especially if you don’t have reviews as a customer. Or Bolt is similar to Uber but have never used it myself. Citymapper app will suggest public transport options (you can select “limited walking” as a filter if you want).

I think I’d work out a preferred public transport route using Citymapper but have Uber set up on your phone in case your friend can’t manage it.

PS Citymapper suggests train from Waterloo to vauxhall - only one stop on the train but 8 min walk to waterloo from london eye.

Or 77 bus from County Hall to Vauxhall, still a few mins walk though.

For bus or tube you can use any contactless card or ApplePay, it doesn’t have to be debit

Brilliant, thank you
