Moving to South Birmingham or thereabouts - but where?

Early 60s and work remotely. Currently fit and healthy. Live alone.

Planning a house move to shake up my life - a new start. Have a couple of friends in South Birmingham and 400k to spend on my new home.

Want to move somewhere that will suit me for the next 10 years or so and where I can get involved in some activities and make some new friends, something I haven't generally found that easy but prepared to make an effort.

What areas would be worth considering? And what activities/ groups etc could I get involved in to expand my life and meet people?

Solihull, Knowle, Dorridge - all lovely. In fact, you’re spoilt for choice for nice villages in the south of Bham. Really beautiful abs underrated part of the country - I grew up there and would definitely return. Drive around the villages from Wythall to Knowle and you’ll come across somewhere you love - with easy road and rail links to Solihull etc you’ll be busy with hobbies in no time.

Dickens Heath isn’t for me, but lots of people like living there, too.

Good luck with your move OP!

South Birmingham is quite a large area tbh. Where do you friends live? Do you want rural or urban?

PP is right to say KH & Moseley are a bit more lively. Stirchley is better value though & increasingly gentrified so you might find something there.

If you want more rural I like the area around Alvechurch/Barnt Green/Lickey

I have friends who live in Clent & they have a very busy village social life. They are extremely gregarious people though, I'm not sure I'd have quite the same social life if I lived there! It is beautiful round there though.
