Hello

Hoping for some advice/ideas on a trip we're planning... We're keen to go to the Pleasure Beach and the Sandcastle in Blackpool, the Hat Museum in Stockport and a few things in Manchester...

Pondering basing ourselves in Manchester and doing day trips or a couple of nights there and a night in Blackpool. Or maybe a night in Lytham? (Not hugely keen on Blackpool after dark!)

Any other ideas gratefully received :)

Maybe stay in Manchester and have a day in Liverpool? Personally I wouldn't go anywhere near Blackpool!

Ha I share your feelings on Blackpool - hence why I don't want to actually stay there - but the Sandcastle is top of the kids wish list!

Warrington might work for Liverpool, Manchester and heading north to Blackpool and Southport. It’s no tourist destination but there’s a few premier inn and other hotels around the outskirts and you’re on the M6 and M62. Also the option of train into the cities.

Sorry Stockport not Southport! Still fine from Warrington.

What's your budget?

Good shout, thanks! I should have said we'll be travelling by train

What's your budget?

Haven't quite got that far yet... by no means limitless but not the primary consideration (if that makes sense). Have a 3, 5 and 8yo so usually go for self-catering like caravan park or air bnb but could do adjoining rooms in a hotel

Lytham st Anne's is lovely and just down the road from blackpool
There's a nice fish and chips and the promenade is lovely with a play area mini golf and arcade. If you do go to the sand castle perhaps stop or even stay in lytham for the night x

NCTDN · 17/08/2022 20:31

Ah so they're quite little for the sandcastle and pleasure beach. I guessed they were teens. It's quite a trek from Manchester to Blackpool for a couple of days out though

emmathedilemma · 17/08/2022 20:32

Ok, train with 3 young kids is a different ball game to travelling by car! I would seriously consider a couple of different bases then.

soundsystem · 17/08/2022 20:43

Thanks all. Yep I think we might do multiple bases to cut down on travelling. Although they're all (luckily!) train fans and the big two are used to longer train trips around Europe so not so worried about that (conversely, taking them more than the shortest journey by car is a nightmare!)
