I'd like to take Dd (age 8)!to Lyme Regis while we are staying in Dorset. Probably only for a few hours as I need to spend a chunk of each day resting at the moment.

She's a big Mary Anning fan which is the reason for the trip.

I can't walk lots /much - I don't have a blue badge am just in that tricky limbo state where lots of walking can make me very ill (I have myasthenia gravis) but I can technically walk!

Is the park and ride a good option? We would want to get to a beach and see the Mary Anning statue. I can't stand easily for a long time so don't know how long queues for park and ride get?

Any good tips for restful activities I might not have thought of?

Thank you!!

I don't know where the park and ride drops off but Lyme is quite difficult to access and very busy. There is a long concrete walkway from the disabled parking to the cob. Most of the beach is rocks/pebbles and shelved. The statue is the opposite direction, but I don't know what access is like.

Charmouth might be a better option as you can park right on the sea front. There's a fossil museum/shop and a cafe. You can also look for fossils yourself but stay away from the cliffs as rockfalls are common.

If you get there early enough there is a car park down on the sea front at Lyme regis, turn right when you get past the Cobb pub and its on Cobb Lane, and its a flat walk then to the shops and there are several benches plus seating along the seafront too.

Lyme Regis is very hilly, so unless a park and ride can drop off and pick up right down near the beach it will possibly be a bit of a struggle. Even the main shops are on the hill going away from the beach.

I hope you can find a way of visiting. Lyme Regis is lovely.

@Dartmoorcheffy what time is early enough?

I can walk a bit (a mile or so) I just have to be careful not to massively over do it or I get very ill

Am hoping that park and ride might drop off at /near the beach as an alternative? We wouldn't be that worried about going to the shops

Looks like the P and R operates until 31st August. A much better option than parking.
My food recommendation would be the Town Mill Bakery. Great breakfasts, lunches and cakes. And a 5 minute flat walk from the seafront.

Update- we only wanted to stop for a couple of hours and were lucky to be able to find a space in a short stay car park in the centre.
But the park and ride looks like a really good option- regularly buses and they stop right in the centre so if we hadn't found a space /wanted to stay longer then we would have used it
