Wise people, can you help?

I’m looking for a family friendly hotel with kids stuff to do on site (or just a pool!) in Yorkshire, Lake District, Peak District.

Wouldn’t actually mind self catering if it had stuff to do on the grounds. And we also need to accommodate an elderly MIL.

Thanks so much!

It might be too far for you but Peebles Hydro might meet your needs.

MaggieFS · 01/08/2022 21:10

What's your budget?

emmathedilemma · 01/08/2022 21:22

if you’re willing to do self catering then centre parcs??

Snowdropsarelovely · 01/08/2022 21:25

Another Place on Ullswater is lovely . Pricey but great.

Rainallnight · 01/08/2022 22:22

Thanks, all!

I’m not a big Centre Parcs fan but it does tick a lot of these boxes, it’s true.

LOVE the look of Another Place. It’s on my bucket list but they don’t have availability for when we want.

Budget could stretch to Another Place, for the right place!

We used to stay at Low Wood Bay near Ambleside using tesco points and topping up, but I think the price is a lot higher now. If budget isn't an issue it's a lovely hotel, beautiful swimming pool outside, and their restaurant Smoke On The Bay is excellent. Their other restaurant has had a refurbishment recently and also looks good.

CurbsideProphet · 01/08/2022 22:41

Oh gosh sorry missed the family friendly angle. Not sure if Low Wood Bay is ideal for kids!

knackeredagain · 01/08/2022 22:44

We went to Low Wood Bay when they kids were about 10 & 6 and had a lovely weekend.

Not quite in the area you’ve said but Ribby Hall is great - lots for families, close enough for day trips to the Lakes and also all the fun bits of Blackpool (eg Sandcastle) without actually being in Blackpool.

What about <a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.swintonestate.com/&ved=2ahUKEwjipP3Mxqf5AhXColwKHTiQD9UQFnoECBwQAQ&usg=AOvVaw0tdmNHGTXCfpYNWXbEg-cJ" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Swinton Estate

I haven't stayed there but they were in a <a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000scsj&ved=2ahUKEwjCj7aKx6f5AhWKI8AKHWnuBBsQFnoECAgQAQ&usg=AOvVaw17Z3WzlO9Qeyjfqf2edx5n" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">TV programme where it showed how they kept up with the running costs of a stately home by turning it into a hotel with all sorts of on site indoor and outdoor activities plus MIL (and you) might like the spa and afternoon tea.

Sorry, fucked up the links, just Google Swinton Estate and look on BBC iPlayer for Amazing Hotels programme.

Netherby Hall near Carlisle - amazing self catering accommodation including an apartment with a lift if you need that for elderly/disabled family. Not far from lake district and lots of interesting history /sights in Carlisle and hadrians wall etc. Gretna Green just up the road (good outlet shopping!)

Rainallnight · 07/08/2022 18:19

Thanks very much for all the ideas! We’ve booked Rockliffe Hall, actually in one of the self catering houses so we don’t always have the stress of managing the kids in a restaurant! It’s a brilliant location for getting MIL there and looks like there’s lots to do.

Have made a note of all of these for future trips.
