Travelodge Is Awful.

I stayed in a Travelodge recently and I was appalled. Travelodge hotels are filthy, broken and disgusting. There was pubic hair in the bath and a revolting brown stain. The beds were not proper beds and the light did not work. It is not a budget hotel, prices are high and the standard does not match the expectations set out by the price.

For a small amount extra, I could have stayed in a quality hotel, a four star one. I wish I had done that. Never again will I stay in a Travelodge hotel.

Yup. They're shit.

GnomeyGnome · 25/07/2022 15:50

I've stayed in multiple Travelodge's and have never had an experience like you describe. I'd be unhappy to come across a dirty room, presumably you complained? What's their response been like?

maddy68 · 25/07/2022 15:52

I stayed in one at Liverpool airport last week and was dreading it. It was great. Did the job. Breakfast in the morning was bang on too

Bramshott · 25/07/2022 15:58

They've always been pretty basic - I stay in them for work reasonably regularly - but in the past that was always offset by a very low price. I don't find them awful, but the prices seem to have gone sky high now so I've started staying in B & Bs instead.

Wellthatsjustswell · 25/07/2022 15:58

Yep. Grim. I have had the misfortune to stay in 2 in my life due to proximity to wedding locations. Never again.

Days Inn were equally awful. Once was enough.

Premier Inn - Probably the 2 worst nights sleep of my life.

Holiday Inn Express on the other hand has king size beds (always pretty new) and air con. Bliss.

ermagerdabear · 25/07/2022 15:59

Depends which one you stop in. I've stayed in ones in York and Glasgow and never had the experience you've described. They've always been basic but clean and comfortable.

Tiarella · 25/07/2022 16:00

I'm complete opposite! Booked one once for a quick, conveniently located stopover and it was way, way better than I expected. Massive room, sparkly clean, really friendly staff and lovely breakfast. I stay in them all the time now, and have never been disappointed.

Movinghouseatlast · 25/07/2022 16:02

Premier Inn are so much better. Travel lodge are very basic. I used to stay in hotels every week for work for 20 years and my heart used to sink when I saw it was a travel lodge.

Jenna2212 · 25/07/2022 16:08

@Movinghouseatlast You are right. I have always found Premier Inn to be good and their beds are very comfortable. It is always clean and welcoming I find. I 'd definitely stay in a Premier Inn again.

Yes same! It was so unclean that I developed an itch on some parts where the skin touched their shelves etc directly. Yuck

KnittingNeedles · 25/07/2022 16:09

Premier Inn are better, more modern and clean. I stayed in one last week with teenage DS - lots of space, very clean, good night's sleep and no complaints.

They aren't all the same though and it's a bit unfair to say that all however many hundred Travelodges in the UK are "shit" because of one poor experience.

helpfulperson · 25/07/2022 16:14

What did they say when you asked to swop rooms?

MuddlerInLaw · 25/07/2022 16:18

I’ve only stayed in one, in North Wales - and it was perfectly acceptable, if basic. Good enough for me to be happy to stay there again if the (narrowly superior) Premier Inn next door were full.

Dinoboymama · 25/07/2022 16:18

I have stayed in a few travel lodges the last being in covent gardens at Easter in London I have never had what you describe in them and the big beds were normal beds. The kids were more like camp beds but premier Inn also use similar styles for kids in some hotels.

FlippinOmicron · 25/07/2022 16:24

The reviews for the one in Covent Garden now wouldn't entice me to book.
Why if they know their offering is fairly sh*t do they not want to improve?

easyday · 25/07/2022 16:26

Well your travel lodge may have been awful but the few times I've stayed in (very early flight) they've been great. Clean, reasonable, car park, decent buffet breakfast.

Els1e · 25/07/2022 16:52

I stayed in one at Bath (the one by the canal) and that was fine. Clean and tidy.

emmathedilemma · 26/07/2022 13:10

I agree, i wouldn't stay in them unless I was absolutely desperate after a couple of bad experiences with them. Stayed in more Premier Inns than I can count and never found a bad one.

SaintHelena · 26/07/2022 13:14

I stayed in one recently - an airport one and it was fine- spotless, breakfast lots of choice but they ran out of mugs one day.

skyeisthelimit · 26/07/2022 13:33

You are only speaking of one TL as you have no idea what all the others are like unless you have stayed in all of them so it is a bit unfair to say "Travelodge hotels are filthy".

We stay in one every year that is almost opposite the beach and it is always clean and tidy with no problems.

We also stay in Premier Inns near the seaside and they are mostly clean and tidy, however on one occasion we were given a room with mould on the bathroom ceiling and dirt everywhere and a half finished paint job and broken toilet seat. I have never had that in a Travelodge.

I do think that the breakfast is better in PI though due to all the extras that they do.

Staynow · 26/07/2022 13:41

Not my (equally limited) experience.

balalake · 26/07/2022 18:44

My experience was not as bad as the OPs (many years ago) but will choose Premier Inn or another brand instead.

alseb · 08/08/2022 16:57

Has anyone ever had a response from TL Customer Service? I can only find an online pro forma which results in an email from them telling me I will be contacted (which hasn’t happened). Can’t find an email address anywhere.

LadyEloise1 · 18/08/2022 17:07

Sky News has it on their Sky News App today that Travelodge is looking for 140 new sites for their hotels and plan a £3 billion investment.
Hopefully some of those billions will go on improving the Travelodge you stayed in @Jenna2212 ** 🤞

NCTDN · 21/08/2022 08:09

I've stayed in the Durham one and it was fine. Nothing fancy, but I wouldn't expect that for what I paid.
