Keeping cool near Ilfracombe/ Woolacombe

We're heading off for a long weekend and of course it's going to be scorching. We were hoping for some sun so we could go to the beach but looks like it will be too hot for that.

Can anyone suggest anywhere nearby which is shady? Happy to do National Trust/ English Heritage.

We have older teenagers so not looking for kids' stuff particularly.

Thanks in advance

If you like boat rides the MS Oldenburg takes you to Lundy island for about £50 return. 2hrs each way and lovely scenery and a high chance of seeing puffins!

Woolacombe sands has good clean toilets and worth a walk first thing in the morning before the temperature rises too high.

Slightly further away but Croyde has a deckchair cinema- it used to be a film s week and never anything new but occasional gems.

You could do some paddle boarding lessons.

The beaches a rocky and have high cliffs so you should find shade.

Also careful with which beaches you swim in. Check the environment agency. One beach in ilfracombe was't safe last year...
Don't pay to walk through the tunnels. Wait for low tide and walk around on the beach.
