Where to park on London outskirts and get train in

Am taking 10yo DS to London October half term and am considering driving part way then getting the train. I'd be approaching via M40.

I'd like to be able to get a train we don't need to pre book and park at the station for 3 nights.

Any suggestions would be welcome. It's been a while since I did this and I can't even remember where I parked! Normally I'd get the train the whole way but I just need the flexibility without the cost of open ended tickets.

Coming from the M40 I'd recommend somewhere close to Perivale station. It's just off the A40 and on the central line for easy access into town.
I'm not clear on the restrictions but there'll be street parking within a few roads of the station.

We have parked at Hillingdon Station before, it has a big car park which is open 24 hours a day and costs £7 a day to park.

Where on M40 are you coming from? If you drive down to the tube (eg Amersham) it can still be a long schlep in, so I'd go much further out. High Wycombe is a good place to stop, or even Banbury (much further up). Chiltern trains don't need booking (no reserved seats) and are pretty reliable.

That's where I would park. Goes straight to Kings Cross.

Thanks I will look at those.

Am coming from Worcestershire so right at Junction 1 of M42.

Park near Northolt station on Carr or Castle Roads

Westfield, loos, m and s for snacks and a two minute walk to mainline tube.

Yes drive all the way in to Westfield Shepherd’s Bush. £15 for 24 hr parking. It would cost more to park elsewhere per 24hr and then pay for train costs. Central line tube

If you get this sorted, for £10 he’s got free travel on his own oyster card.

I use Ickenham which is about a mile off m40. Lots of residential parking near station for free. On metropolitan and picadily line although is zone 6

Sorry. The link didn’t post!

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 11/07/2022 09:59

Don't drive into Westfield. You have to consider ULEZ and it's really expensive parking!

Lindy2 · 11/07/2022 10:01

Hillingdon.

Just carry on the M40 when it turns into the A40 and it will practically deliver you on the doorstep of Hillingdon Station.

Big car park, not too busy and a very straightforward tube journey into central London.

Any of the Ruislip underground stations are good, some Central Line, Metropolitan Line, some Piccadilly Line, so depends where you're heading in London. Just turn off at the Polish War Memorial on the M40 and the stations are all very close. Zone 6. Car parks available, so Ruislip Manor, South Ruislip, Ruislip Gardens or Ruislip

Sorry to hijack your thread OP, but can anyone recommend a similar station to park at if coming via the M3?

From M3 Kingston or Richmond work.

wonderstuff · 14/07/2022 14:36

From M40 I would look at Wembley, I was shocked how cheap it was to park there last time I went, traffic in and out a bit of a ball ache but cheap parking.

Feltham would be a good option
