Lovely things to do/places to eat in York

Am really looking forward to a weekend trip to York with my best friend in July. I have been before, but only with small children.
Can anyone suggest some fun/different etc things for us to do/see - and nice places for cocktails, food etc. Keen to avoid hen/stag do places! Thanks in advance.

Sora bar at the top of the Malmaison. Impossible. Plush cafe. Ate o'clock. Lucia's.

There was a thread not so long ago with some great ideas.

Fossgate street have lovely restaurants. Also Guy Fawkes pub.

Places to visit include the cathedral, castle walls, shops etc. Castle Howard isn’t too far away either.

I was there recently and really enjoyed the Railway Museum. May not be your thing but was interesting seeing inside the old royal trains. If you’re there on a Saturday you can do parkrun at York racecourse. I would give Betty’s tearoom a wide berth. Overpriced tourist trap. I was there during school half term and storm Eunice so weather wasn’t great and limited what we could do but there does seem to be lots of interesting things. It was my first time there and really liked it.

If you just want to cram a sandwich in,try krusties
find cex, there’s a church (st Sampson’s) on the other side of the street-follow it round as if your going to the market-it’s about halfway down-blink and miss it

i left York 6 years ago and I miss that deli-I’d kill for one of their salads

the pig and pastry on bishy road-expensive but worth it

ate o’clock

castle museum is good

avoid paying to go to Clifford’s tower-there’s nothing in there-nice to look at

The dungeon’s and Jorvik centre are good-mine loved the human poo in the Jorvik

railway museum is good if you like trains

The ghost tours are very good-we went to one that started by the river

i wouldn’t bother with the self driving boats but the cruse ones are ok

museum gardens are good for kids letting off steam

york minster is nice to look at

rowntrees park is massive

Betty’s is over-rated and expensive

We ate at a restaurant called Skosh in the end and it was totally fabulous. Highly recommended. Forage was good too, as was the view from Malmaison roof bar.
