Hi, has anyone been here recently and can give us any good recommendations about things to do on and off site/places to eat etc? Will be me, DH, and two bairns (almost 4yo and 8 mo), staying in a static caravan on site. The website says the beach is 10 mins walk away, but my eldest obviously walks a lot slower than we would so wondering how realistic this is? She isn't the best walker. We are also vegetarian so not sure there will be much provision for us on site especially as eldest is a fussy eater, so wondering if there is anywhere near the site that might be good for a lunch out?

We've literally just come back! We had the most amazing week, our lodge was gorgeous and Wales is so beautiful. Assuming you have a car... if so have a drive to Angel bay (15ish mins away) and go seal spotting. Bodnant Gardens are beautiful too. We didnt have time but wamted to fit in a trip to zipworld which isnt far. We didn't walk to the beach as we couldn't work out how to walk there, didn't seem an obvious route. We were really impressed with all the activities for kids. We didn't eat out while there so can't advise on that.

to get to the beach go through the site next to Golden Fate opposite ( White something or otjer) . there is a railway bridge over the track and once over there you are at the beach front. Easily walkable .
Or hop.in car and head a mile to pensarn and turn right at roundabout and go over the railway bridge to car parks and cafes etc. Great for little ones work snal amusements as well.
Llandudno is only 30 mins away and Welsh Mountain Zoo is a must.

flapjackfairy · 11/06/2022 23:18

Golden Gate !

SecondhandTable · 12/06/2022 11:05

Thanks both. Glad to hear you've been recently and had a nice time.

Is the path to the beach accessible for a pram too?

Angel Bay sounds great, zoo also. We are only there for a few days, I think we are going to do Conwy Castle one day as DH used to go as a child so is desperate to take our eldest. Looks like that's right by a bunch of cafes and restaurants too.

you will have to carry pushchair over the railway bridge . Otherwise Pensarn is a better option
Or Towyn the other way though that is more commercialised.
Conwy is lovely but not great for pushchair or wheelchair access . you may have to lift it over a few steps. Carnarvon Castle is bigger and much more accessible. and more to see and do in the castle itself . Or if you fancy a good run Beaumaris on Anglesey has a lovely castle and a great pier for crabbing and boat trips around Puffin Island.
The sea zoo on Anglesey and the little farm next door are both good ( Folly Farm I think ) .
I love Anglesey. V beautiful.
In the other direction from Ty Mawr you have Rhyl which has improved a lot and has a sea life centre .

SecondhandTable · 12/06/2022 15:44

Thanks, DH is dead set on Conwy Castle due to nostalgia haha he will be ok carrying the buggy about if needs be. Youngest is just still slightly too small to safely be in the backpack carrier which is annoying otherwise DH could have just taken him in that. Thanks for the tip about the beach too. We are also going with some extended family and one has somewhat limited mobility due to illness so they may not be able to walk to the beach either if it's lots of steps across the bridge.

well the other side of Rhyl is Prestatyn which has loads of parking and wide open beaches. You can park right next to prom and a couple of little cafes. V clean and nicer than Rhyl by far. And perfect if you have someone with mobility issues
and just inland is Rhuddlan castle which is small but v lovely with beautiful views. Nice place for a picnic. Rhos on Sea is also lovely but not always the easiest place to park.
I used to have a caravan on golden gate and this thread is making me all nostalgic . Enjoy your break x

This site is in Towyn, its a typical Bucket and spade holiday place but a great location as its so near other places, Angel Bay is great but check the times as the seals are only there certain times of the year.
Tir Prince Market and Raceway isnt for everyone but we like a wander around and I believe the race nights are great.
Beach as above I would take the short drive to Pensarn
Colwyn Bay and Rhos are excellent if you look here you can see how to get from the A55 to Angel bay and more info on the area

You can Crab fish in Conwy, also walk the walls is good buy have to see if the kids can manage it

Good Value Breakfast? Just off the A55 so on your way to most places is Sarah's cafe. These are not Touristy type places but Local food and value for money, well the chippy isnt cheap but it is nice.

Shameless olacemarking because we are headed that way in a fortnight and I was thinking the same!

Funf · 13/06/2022 07:59

Its a great often overlooked area, loads to see and do something for everyone really.
Its also easy to get to Liverpool and Chester two places well worth visiting
www.donthibernate.co.uk/liverpool/

Another small but perfectly formed place is Beddgelert to show the children the grave

greyspottedgoose · 13/06/2022 08:05

If the weather isn't great head to Rhyl, there's tag active and sc2 where the old sun centre was, and on your way back stop at batch for ice cream and waffles

SecondhandTable · 13/06/2022 10:19

Thanks for this! We are travelling from a nearby city in the NW, one of the reasons we are headed to this site is the short journey with the kids haha. Will definitely investigate all the suggestions, we only have a few days but we will definitely make future trips to the area anyway. Loved the suggestion of Llanfairfechan beach, me and DH went there on holiday about 10 years ago!
