What's Bude Like (in Cornwall)? We're about to book a cottage.

We're just about to book this cottage but never having been to Cornwall before I wondered if any of you knew Bude as an area and could tip me the wink on what it's like?

I know Bude. Lived in Devon as child and went on holiday a few times as a teenager.

Beaches are fab, even has a pool that feels up with every new tide. Shops usual tourist array. A fab shop that sells gorgeous pasties. There is an indoor swimming pool...

Looks like the cottage you linked to is out of town so you would need to drive down into town for the beach and shops. It is hilly.

I think my cousin used to work for this company. His friend owns it.

Bude is great. Go for it. I love North Cornwall. Well to be honest I love all of cornwall. Its a good location for the rest of cornwall and for visiting Devon too. Good beaches, good surf if your into that, good walks, little coves nearby.

its lovely, we've been and stayed in crackington haven, a bit further down the coast towards boscastle quite a few times. lots of good beaches to visit, otter sanctuary, and there is one of those big adventure parks right by bude full of slides, ball pools, outdoor rides etc, great for kids.

we went last easter during that week of really nice weather and just spent most of it on the beach

Thanks Cece. Yes the cottage is on a small hobby farm, it's about a mile from Bude beach, you have to drive he said.

We'll have a 6 month old baby, a 2.5 yr old and a 6 yr old that has SN's so isn't great at walking really.

We'll have the car with us so will drive them to beach anyway, do you think it'll be ok?

Cottage looks lovely too. If your not sure, you can always look at Classic Cottages too, they have some great places as well.

ditto above, my favourite beach is just north of the main ones in Bude, been lots of times & will no doubt be back one day. sigh.

lots of parking at main 2 beaches. easy access etc & toilets, always good.

Yes the parking is cheapest down by Crooklets beach. BUT go behind the amusement arcade. It is a different price than the rest of the car park, which is more expensive.

Hope I'm not too late.....We went last year and really enjoyed it. Beaches are fab...one of them is blue flag isn't it?? Crooklets I think.
We found a fantastic child friendly pub just down the coast - near widemouth bay - on the left before you get there. It's on a hill overlooking the bay and the food, ambiance, everything was fantastic. Great children's play area and a cute little shed/summer house thing to sit in and look out over the bay. www.bayviewinn.co.uk/
We absolutely loved our stay in Bude...within reasonable driving distance of Padstow./Watergate/Eden Project.
Oooh I'm on a roll, we went to a lovely little steam railway that stops at a farm with LOADS of outdoor toys/play equiptment...Launceston Steam Railway.
I'm not on commision - in fact I'm supposed to be looking for a week in a villa in Menorca but disillusioned with the prices, so this has made me realise what I could do with that money in this counrty....Hmmmmm.
